Tell Me and my Son about Mutants & Masterminds

M&M gave me a much better understanding of how d20 should work under the hood by putting the rules and feats in a clear and strait forward manner without relabeling the same feat 20 times. For example a single feat that lets you pick two skills each getting a +2 rather than having 10 feats giving +2 to two pre-chosen skills.

Oh yeah!

That kind of drafting efficiency appeared in the Dragon magazine article that provided a bunch of new options for Soulknives- one feat in particular covered 3 that appeared in CompPsi...and actually surpassed them at the same time!

Yep- that was a good design decision on the M&M design team's part.

Ordered the book and beginner's guide today. Should be in for the beginning of next week.

Already thinking about the comicbooks I created as a "kid". Can't wait to convert Malign & the Turbulant into a roleplaying game.

My son seems intent on doing a flash type character which surprised me but hey- its a good starting point.

Daughter seems only mildly interested at this point. She wants to keep to doing Eberron.

Thankyou for the advice and talking a bit about the game.

Here is a good place to go

The Atomic Think Tank • Index page

All this said, it is an excellent Superhero game, though it is necessary to watch character creation very closely. I played it, and even ran it, a bit and enjoyed it but will probably not do so again. The min-maxing was too much for me.

Checked out the site you gave a link for. Thankyou. Looks like everything can be found here. I didn't relieze it was as supported as it is. Ouch if this takes off between my son and myself.

Now I have to look into my Heroclix dup box and see what can be repainted / cannibalized.

Maybe your daughter would go for a shifter or warforged that fell through a dimensional rift or something.

More questions-

Atomic Thinktank assumes I am a child so I'm not getting anywhere there. Does anyone have any other sites with game info and converted superheroes?

How compatable is M&M to DnD? Both are D20 based but without ruules / examples I have no idea.

Anything else that may help a newbie to M&M?

(I think I may be more cyked to play than my son. Already setting up basic campaign world concepts and locations with key players. I don't don't know if they can work within the rules.

BTW (again), Superman can be built very solidly at PL 16, and Batman (without gear, but as a peak human) is probably roughly PL 9 or 10.

I find my self thinking Batman without gear... ????... what else does one use his ungodly foresight for if not having the perfect gear... for every situation. ;) Holy bat shark repellent Jeff.... Why yes I do have a satellite we could transform in to a realy big lazer to enter the enemy lair with... but it will take out TV reception in 40 miles.. and I might need to rip out the lock over there to get the electronics to call in the strike.

Can we build bats with a alien intelligence suppression field...

If you're familiar with D20 games and played HERO, M&M wlll seem like a wonderful hybrid of the 2.
I agree with this, M&M is point buy d20. Like 3e without classes or levels.

One important aspect of M&M is that char gen is complex, because of the point buy freedom, but the system in play is relatively quick and simple. This is appropriate for superhero - the protagonists have many powers and other features (such as feeble old aunts or alien homeworlds) - but the action is fast and furious. Superheroes don't die often (and when they do, they usually come back), unlike many styles of D&D, where PCs are fragile and need to be generated quickly.
