Templated golems

I'm looking to use some unusual golems and constructs in my campaign and rather than simply advance them, can anyone recommend templates (and the book they are in) to use?

Half-dragon (red). Ignore the rule about not applying it to constructs. Don't change type, HD size or skill points. Call it "infernal engine".

Imagine the looks of surprise on my player's faces when a warforged titan with spinning blade wings kicks down their door and uses a cone of fire on them. Priceless.

Demiurge out.

Been there, done that. I used a warforged NPC with the half-dragon template vs. my PCs, where the flame breath was a flamethrower attached to one arm. As you said, the look on my players' faces when I described him raising an arm and the flame lighting up the tube was priceless :D

Something like that would work fine with a golem. Frankly, you can use most templates with the same mechanics, just changing the flavor text around.

Book of templates deluxe and Complete Book of Eldritch Might (and Book of Eldritch Might I) contain construct templates for turning creatures into non golem constructs of different materials. I think BoEM has iron and stone while BoT has a bunch (they also used to have a bunch as a web enhancement for the original book and they got included in the deluxe edition).

Ravenloft Campaign Setting 3.0 (not sure if it is in the RL PH 3.5) has a dread golem template for golems in a horror setting.

I second BOT 3.5 and add Flock of Foes from Genjitsu- it has 4 templates for many any creature into one of the 4 base golems. One of the examples is a iron octopus golem.

Hmm. Something like a demonically infused golem, a dread golem or a masterwork piece would be interesting. I'm thinking of using a flesh golem, but something that doesn't resemble Frankenstein's monster. Maybe the corrupt template from BoVD and the half-elemental template for cold.

Heh, BoTD is a good choice. I used an Amorphous clay golem on the party once, good choice for a 'following' monster that tracks them down, kills someone (Start with NPCs if you are a nice guy, though I used the Paladin's warhorse) then leaves again only to return later. Scared the crap out of 'em. Needless to say the bad guy who controlled him was a sadistic, vengeful bastiche. :)

Hmmm. Some interesting ideas. I've never been particularly interested in using Golems, so I've never thought about adding templates to them. I like the Amorphous for Elementals. Surprised the players when a Fire version of the Winter Wolf dropped to the ground, turned into a wide spread of flames, and moved beneath a door. Just sounded cool.

Can't really think of anything to add though. Not at home where I have a nifty list of them, and I can only think of like three templates. Weird thing is that Ghost popped up first, but doesn't really work for a Golem. :heh:
