I’m not a fan of the “half” species - I think I’m over the questionable parentage thing. Same with the short races. Outside of dwarves, there’s never been enough there for the gnomes or the halflings to warrant their continued inclusion for me, but if I have to keep one, it’s gnomes. Ditto the usual anthropomorphic races with the exception of Minotaurs.

Honestly, the ten in the 24 PHB that we got are pretty much my wish list. I have loved goliaths since 3.5 and always thought they felt like they fit with the other core races. I also loved aasimar and are happy they made it to the big show after their cooler sibling got their first. And full orc is a fine replacement for the half-orc in the bruiser role.

If I could expand out, my next choices would be triton, tabaxi, and fairy, which fill the aquatic, furry and fey/flying roles and still feel both generic to work on a variety of settings and unique in their niche.

Human
Dwarf
Elf
Half-elf (distinct enough from elf)
Halfling
Gnome
Tiefling (distinct enough from other planetouched and the most popular)
Dragonborn
Orc (half-orc, both fill similar niches to not be too distinct)
Goblin (distinct enough from hobgoblins and bugbears)

The "Tolkien 4" have more or less appeared in every Edition, so in they go. Half-elves and gnomes have been a fixture for a while to the point that they're normalized. Same for dragonborn and tieflings post-3e, who are also super-popular. Goblins and orcs haven't always been playable and often the "bad guys," but like the Tolkien 4 are as enduring and iconic in fantasy RPGs.

Orc. Goblin. Minotaur. Troll. Undead. Human. Dwarf. Gnome. Elf. Werewolf.
