The second bat tries to hit the gnome, but misses, as does Dire Rat #1 when trying to bite through Sledge's armor.
The 2nd Dire Rat hits the Paladin again, almost bringing him down.

The base of the stalagmite pillar can be climbed on, but it is slippery and requires a DC 12 Athletics check to either climb up or move across it. (You only have to make one check per move action, though.)
