The Americans Only! Battlestar Galactica Thread

OK, I've had it with not being able to look at the other Battlestar Galactica threads since so many UKers have already seen the whole thing. This thread is for us Americans who haven't seen all thirteen episodes, or read the spoilers.

Friday's episode "Act of Contrition" was simply amazing. I liked the way that the entire episode was presented more as a short story, switching back and forth between Kara in the viper, burning up on its way into the atmosphere of that planet, and the events happening that day. Actually, all told, there were three seperate timelines being shown throughout the entire episode, and it didn't involve time travel :) Great work there by the writers.

The thousandth landing scene was poigniant. I thought it was cool how they lost - what was it, a third of their pilots - due to a stupid accident rather than a cylon attack.

Overall, more great stuff. I will definitely be coming back next Friday for part II.

That's what I love about BSG: all the direction, writing and acting are top-notch. Even the editing, which could have ruined this episode, was superb. Any problems with the editing could have hurt the pace or the emotional impact of the story.

I'm just plain addicted to this show now, and it's going to be a very long week. :D

Okay, american born not I am, citizen yes...ah, I have to say, Starbuck and Apollo knew of that secret for quite a while...I am more surprised at Apollo for holding onto it. Does he really have issues with his father, that bad?

FX effects heighten the emotional cloud, I was wondering why they kept showing the Viper freefall in the atmosphere, nicely done.

Hmmm, they got 40 vipers, and 20 something pilots, minus the cut, from the freak accident, and that WAS...a freak accident.

I guess it is a weird thing to survive your 1000th flight...in BG 2.0 terms...that was a terrible way to go.

Well, part 2 in days to come....Amada risks all, for only one...interesting.

I really wanted to hate this series. In the pilot I made fun of how all the space battles were filmed by the Babylon 5 maintenence bot. I really thought this series would suck.

Could someone pass me the salt? Because I'm about to eat crow.

This episode was phenominal. My wife was hooked and she doesn't really even like sci-fi. I loved it from beginning to end. Telling the story over three timelines worked well and the camera techniques they used to show the different events were very well done.

[sblock]When Starbuck fessed up, I was positive that Adama would give her a big old hug or whatever. His reaction of cold fury left my jaw on the floor. It's exactly what would happen and it made the characters more real to me.[/sblock]

Is it just me, or is this series one gigantic experiment to see how badly the writers can screw over the characters?

Reminds me of how the writers treated the Farscape characters. This is one of the highest compliments I can think of...

Love this show.

I will emphasize Adama's reaction and statement to Starbuck. I was very surprised. Very pleasantly surprised even though I felt very sorry for Starbuck.

Oh, and help me out cause I missed the very beginning putting my son to bed. What caused the accident?

A frayed strap. Just general wear-and-tear that caused a probe to fall out and activate and blow up. A totally "normal" accident. Unless Boomer was out and about, of course.
