I voted combat speed, but what I really care about is the modularity and how it can be used to adjust complexity - how the basic game should be very simple and how the add-on modules can add complexity in controlled amounts while still remaining optional.

Funny... I immediately had an answer in my head when I saw the thread title, which was The Biggest Issue In 5E. Then when I opened the thread up and saw the poll's actual request was The Biggest Issue In 5E Design, I realized that my answer wouldn't actually apply.

Cause my original answer was that the biggest issue of 5E was going to be the incessant caterwauling of some players who discover that 5E won't actually play in exactly the same tight, restrictive, inflexible, 'this is what D&D is to me and I have to play in this specific fashion and I refuse to compromise' way that they want. And they are going to spend years bemoaning this fact, especially claiming that WotC lied to them said from the beginning that they were "going to make a game that was all-inclusive, but which they failed miserably at and most certainly did not!"

And the rest of us will have to listen to it for years. ;)

I have to spread some more XP around before I can give you some, but this was awesome. You are right; we are like spoiled children when the topic of "what D&D means to me" comes up.

Which is silly, if you think about it. After all, if 5E doesn't "feel like D&D," we can still play the version that does.

The system longevity is a big thing for me. I need a guarantee from WotC that they aren't already planning a 6E and won't be for at least 10 years before I'll hop on the 5E train. I'm sick of putting money into an edition that won't last.

Previous Edition Baggage. Everything is important, but make or break on 5e is this. I'm trying to be optimistic for them, but its going to take a helluva marketing campaign (open playtest is a good start) to make this fly.

What sort of "baggage" did you have in mind? If you dig deep enough, even halflings could be considered "baggage" by some players...

Those who've discussed the biggest issue I chose might be surprised that I chose it: OGL. I chose this issue for two reasons.

1) Although I do think it was a bad business move to open Pandora's box back in 2000, it was an even greater error to try shutting it in 2008. I think one of the biggest blows to 4E was the loss of support and continuing support for older editions.

2) My current needs from a game system is adventure support. I'm a busy professional and family man, plus I've always enjoyed adventure modules. I hope a 5E OGL wold bring more variety of support again like we had during 3.X.
