The Cleric Pregen

I've never understood that kind of issue.

If its lacking in fluff you like.. make it up?

Put some flavour text to it? Have your cleric strike out in the name of their god, and their god bolsters the cleric and his party in return?

IMO they should have gone further in stepping away from the full-plated warrior-priest, and dropped the chain to leather.

Cleric

My first level cleric blasted a sleeping level 6 Shadar-Kai Skrimisher with his Cascade of Light for an automatic crit of 39 damage. The Shadar-Kai had been hit before but this attack took him straight past bloodied and into the big sleep.

My character had a hard time coming to grips with blasting a holy ray of light straight into a sleeping enemies skull but it saved the party. That guy was a monster.

The cleric is a lot of fun now. I love it.

In this particular case, I'm having trouble coming up with fluff that both fits the mechanics and makes me happy. And I was hoping that the designers would do it for me, since I'm willing to pay them for the effort.

Why does striking out with a ray bolsters endurance and striking out with a mace bolsters the ability to defend?

Imagine an acid spell that deafens people on a failed save. You could conceivably make such a spell and balance it with other spells of its level, and explain it with "it's MAGIC! and it simply works the way the writeup says", but I don't think that's a very satisfying explanation.

The cleric at-will powers feel the same way to me.

I thought ranged attacks were just at +4 against helpless enemies rather than auto-crit?

I love clerics, and I love plate-wearing warrior-priests.

Of course, concievably that concept can be covered by any class (or combo thereof) or talent tree that doesn't shoot too many laser beams.
