The Cleric Pregen

I had the same issue with justifying the rules via flavor, but reading the cleric again makes me think that I was paying attention more to the possibility than to the actual powers.

Check them out:

LANCE OF FAITH: A brilliant lance of light strikes a foe and illuminates him, making him easier to strike.

This one makes sense. I would've preferred a blanket bonus to all attacks against the guy, but we're talking divine power, so personalized attention is fine.

PRIEST'S SHIELD: You utter a minor prayer as you strike an opponent. You and an adjacent ally gain +1AC until your next turn.

Having to hit the guy is probably the biggest issue, and that can be explained easily as a wavering of your faith as you miss your target. The fact that an adjacent ally is affected makes the protection itself very easy to justify- it's a protective aura emanating near you.

SACRED FLAME: A light from above strikes your foe and aids an ally. He may gain 2 temporary hp or make a saving throw.

This one is simple- the divine power is channeled in two ways at once. Again, the attack roll needs to be explained as a weakening of faith, perhaps. Otherwise, no worries.

It's probably me just warming up to the whole concept, but I don't see much of a problem here anymore.
