George Lucas has announced that there will be one last Star Wars movie to end the six movie epic, but it won't have any actors.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars, an animated film is scheduled to be released into theaters on August 15 of this year.

"I felt there were a lot more 'Star Wars' stories left to tell. I was eager to start telling some of them through animation and, at the same time, push the art of animation forward," said Lucas in a statement to the media.

Movie goers cannot be fooled though. Lucas says that although the film is animated, people can expect the same kind of galactic space battles and action that all the other Star Wars films have. The approximate running time of the film is 100 minutes.

The film is produced by Warner Brothers and Lucasfilm LTD. The new movie is also set to continue as an animated, 30 minute "mini-movie" series this autumn. The show can be seen on the Cartoon Network.

It's been how long now since this all started? The first movie was released in the 70s, it's been over 30 years I think. Lucas lost his inspiration a long time ago and has just been faking it with this particular golden goose. He can only do this period because his SW muse has rusted over and won't cough up anything new. I'm sick and tired of this one little jitter in galactic history. The Old Republic is just under 25000 years old when it became the Empire, I'd like to see some more of it than the Clone Wars and Rebellion.

Given that the Cartoon Network shorts, which this is based off of, were the single best thing to come out of Star Wars in years, I'm actually pretty excited about it.

Now, I don't know that I'll go to the theaters to see it, since it'll likely be on TV, but I will make an effort to catch it on TV, which is more than I can say for anything else right now.

I for one loved both the prequel and original trilogies and await anymore material God I mean George Lucas decides to produce.

*Sighs* George Lucas has become obsessed with that specific time-period in Star Wars. Where is the love for post-Return of The Jedi?

*Looks at bookshelf* He could simply use some of the canon-books that have come out there is a wealth of good plot-lines there.
I think this period is where Lucas feels the main thrust of the story lies, with Kenobi, Yoda, and--most importantly--Vader still alive. I know he had some ideas for a new arc after RotJ, but maybe now he's content to let everyone live happily ever after.

From what I recall of the post-RotJ non-canon books, it gets rather DragonBall-Zesque with A) trading off a sense of wonder for an increasingly dark, heavy tone, B) characters shuffling on and off the mortal coil willy-nilly (that damn Palpatine just won't stay dead), and C) it becomes a total jedi power trip where the dials go up to 11...then 12...then 38...then 5,604....People are using the force to blow up planets and stars.

Having said all that, I certainly think that animation has come far enough that an animated sequel featuring Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia would be stupid not do do. Now is the time to do it too. In fact, I think such a film would be the breakthrough film that animation has been waiting for: an animated adventure film that can skew to audiences more than six years old.
