The Closed Eye (DM: Halford, Judge: garyh)

Palindrome conjures his mage hand, gives his pocket mirror to it, and has the mage hand carry it to a place where he can view everything outside the door.

OOC: Paranoid? Oh, yes...

Anybody else out there? Such as Arnest, with a bunch of guards and crossbows?

[sblock=Time for XP!]Here's what I've got for XP:

All: Trapped stairway:
  • magic crossbow trap: 150 xp
  • spear gauntlet trap, mishandled so as to be harder than the one in the DMG: 175 xp
  • Total 325 xp, or 82 each

All: Ritual chamber encounter:
  • Arnest (artillery 4) 175 xp
  • Tsasha (controller leader 3) 150 xp
  • Orc (brute 4) 175 xp
  • Gravehound (soldier 3) 150 xp
  • Total 650 xp, or 163 each

Palindrome, Tander, and Atreus: Skill challenge, escape through the sewers. Complexity 3, level 2: 375 xp, or 94 each.

Palindrome and Tander: 4 months time XP (26 Feb 2009 - 26 June 2009): 416 each

Woe: 2 months time XP (26 Feb 2009 - 26 April 2009): 208 xp

Atreus: 5 months time XP (1 January 2009 - 1 June 2009): 415 xp

Palindrome: 25 xp for drawing a picture of Mobile Fortress Bunkbed, which cracked me up.

Woe: 25 xp for having a picture of himself on his shield. That's class!

All: 1000 xp (250 each) for completing a major quest: reuniting Arnest with his family.

Bottom line:
Palindrome: 1030 xp
Tander: 1005 xp
Woe: 728 xp
Atreus: 1004 xp

Pretty sure only Atreus levels from that. Atreus, don't forget your first xp award here, either, which I only mention 'cause it's not linked from your sheet at the moment.

[sblock=Woe's XP]Since you were missing from 28th April to 18th June without any word, I don't feel comfortable giving XP for that time, or the skill challenge that took place then. Sorry; I know life happens, but next time let us know, eh?[/sblock]

Judge approved!

[sblock=DM credits]Well, first you need to have some. Usually DM credits are awarded at the end of completed adventures, as a reward for finishing the job. I don't have any credits for this yet, for example.

Now, the charter does allow you to petition (i.e. make a proposal) to be given partial credit early for long-running games. Nobody's done that yet, so I'm not sure how that would go.

Then, when you've got some, how do you spend them? Good question. Garyh is the only one who's done so so far. He just declared that he was doing it in the adventure thread, then submitted his character at the higher level. I seem to remember that there's probably something in the charter about getting DM approval to spend them mid-adventure; if not, there should be.

We don't yet have a good DM-point tracking mechanism. When we get one, which we really should do soon, this will probably be less unclear. I hope.

Palindrome conjures his mage hand, gives his pocket mirror to it, and has the mage hand carry it to a place where he can view everything outside the door.

No guards are in evidence. The courier, her professional smile looking a bit ragged at the sight of the disembodied spectral hand waving a mirror about, seems to be alone.

Palindrome's mage hand puts back the mirror and takes the clipboard. It moves it back through the slender crack in the doorway. Palindrome signs it in Doddoddod's script.

"Thank you!" he says brightly, mage hand giving the board back to the courier.

*Shwup*

He snags the bag (and anything else she has to offer), then slams the door, locking it.

Palindrome checks the contents.

[sblock=DM Credits]I also linked from my character sheet to the posts where I had received my credits and said how many I was spending and how much XP it got me. Oh, and this was done between adventures. But this conversation is probably better continued in the Discussion thread.[/sblock]

Tander watches the financial transaction with mild interest. Money never had much interest for him personally, but he understood its power and knew when to give it proper respect.

"Palindrome," Tander says quietly while observing the scene, "do you suppose we'll have to give any of the money back if this cult war results in Arnest's death?"

"****!" yells Palindrome, surprised by Tander's sudden appearance.

"Whoa. You nearly scared the life out of me. I was about to call everyone and let them know that a courier just brought our money."

"No, he wasn't," says Palindrome's hand, "He was planning to steal it all, head to the Hanged Man tavern, teleport to Baccarta, put a bounty on all of your heads, and join a pirate crew."

Palindrome pauses. Mouth open. He watches his hand from the corner of his eye. After a moment, he gathers his composure. "Heh-heh! Amazing what you can do with Prestidigitation, isn't it? Pretty good joke, huh? So, to answer your question: No, I don't think we'll have to give any of this back. We were paid to find Arnest. We found Arnest, so we're done."

"And he was going to kidnap Adie, forcing her to marry him," says his hand.

"No, I wasn't!" Palindrome shouts at his hand, "I don't even like Adie!"

"Yes, you do. You totally have the hots for her!"

"Shut up!"

"You shut up!"

Palindrome looks at Tander with an embarassed smile. "Heh-heh?"
