D&D General The Crab Bucket Fallacy

Exactly. On both counts.

It would need actually useful healing. PDK's existing "share your Second Wind" is garbage, which is a big part (though far from the only part) of why the subclass overall is garbage.
Neither that ability nor the subclass is garbage, nor does it need to have more healing.

I can't speak to your experiences, but from what I've seen - improper pacing (the kind that lets casters overly dominate) or a lack of compensation for that pacing is really, really common.

And the real problem isn't for DMs with decades of experience (though some certainly have this issue) but for new, newish DMs who don't know any better.

It should be discussed, and advice given in the DMG. But I've never seen it with multiple DMs. It was a major issue in 3.x after about level 14. I just don't see it now. On the other hand, people that don't have a problem just shrug and move on because if they pipe up and say it's not an issue they get people telling them they have no idea what they're talking about. 🤷

The PDK fights it out with the Champion for absolute worst Fighter sub-class.

(They both loose, because they're just that bad.)

Edit: y'know, not really, because that's by bleeding-edge CharOp standards, just placing any appreciation at all on basic ass-kicking, Champion is better.

That's really all I'm saying. It's not a HARD issue to fix, but it needs to be addressed.

I saw it in 3x, it's lessened in 5e but I still definitely see it. Heck it was front and center (level 6 party) in the new DMs game this Sunday.

Interesting, I see the opposite. People who do see the issue keeping quiet because it's not easy to criticize a new DM without seeming like a jerk. And fighter players keeping quiet because they just assume that's how things should be.

Insulting eachother, even being impolite, is against the CoC. Being stupid, confused, or lying, is not. 🤷

Mod Note:
Dude. This is insulting. Please stop.

And, no, I don't agree that's the implication.

When you step on someone's foot in the crowd, you don't get to assert that it wasn't painful. You can at best assert that you didn't intend to step on their foot, or cause pain. But that doesn't mean the harm was not present.

Champion is worse because it's that way on purpose. They tried to make something with the PDK, and failed.

And if you're fine with all the other things that edition did, it's a great option for you.
You're running in circles to keep up that Negative Nancy vibe going. Personally, I'd think having that having a choice of features that you can select from would be great regardless of edition regardless of what else a certain previous edition did.
