The Crux of the Matter

(OOC: Fail what? What did you try? I don't understand the question?

EDIT: Ohhhh, okay. I'll check--I think you may have failed, but your Spellcraft is lower than most of the rest of the group, and the DC is 25 for potions)

[SBLOCK=Vanitri]No, not in that memory--the strange sensation is fading, but it didn't bring any images with it. He mostly just remembers being a girl. Maybe if he goes after more of the lights, perhaps?[/SBLOCK]

(OOC: Okay I checked--he never tried the Spellcraft check. It is separate from Detect Magic--it is just a mundane use of the skill, albeit with a rather high DC)

OOC: Well, he'll either try, or assist someone else while they try. He's a little down due to the item loan though :(

(OOC: Well nobody else is doing it, but with your bonus, you automatically fail, necklace or no necklace ;))

*Vanitri can't identify the potions, so he chases after some more lights, and one of them shoots into him:*

[SBLOCK=Vanitri]Vanitri gazes down into the diaphraxian crystalline temporal field, artificially constructed and yet still stable! She holds her breath as she watches the strange spatial distortions and colourful residue images that flash through her vision, a side effect of bending the fourth dimension, even in such a small area. But now, for the test! She reaches down with a soft slender hand and picks up Rayne. Vanitri holds the old cat gently and cuddles her up against her ample chest in perhaps a final hug, as Rayne lets forth a feeble but contented purr. Vanitri remembered when she had first found Rayne as a kitten. She hadn't needed a familiar, but she instantly fell in love with the friendly and curious calico kitten. She knew Rayne would understand. Sparing a hopeful smile for Jaecyn, her assistant, she quickly casts a spell with the hand not holding the old cat, calling forth a minor telekinesis to lift the cat and fly her towards the unstable field.

'Sorry girl, this isn't big enough to use one of the monsters from the dungeons, and besides, your time was coming soon anyway...and then again, there is the off chance--'

Vanitri gently lowers Rayne into the roiling temporal muddle, which whirls and gyrates oddly. Vanitri gasps as the field resolves itself and collapses, leaving behind only a beautiful calico kitten, which purrs as it leaps into Vanitri's arms, full of energy.

"I can't believe...No, I can believe. I knew you could do it. You're a genius! The greatest wizard that ever lived! I am not worthy to love, worship, and adore you, to bask in your genius and share in this world-changing discovery!" Jaecyn exclaims--Was his name definitely Jaecyn? Maybe it was Jaemie? Vanitri wasn't sure.

But that didn't really matter. It worked! All that time, all that research and it was a success! And as a minor fringe benefit, it was her daughter's birthday today--a new kitty will win Vanitri the 'Best Mommy Ever!' award for sure, not that an infant is particularly hard to please. Perhaps the unconditional love, the utter innocence of a baby is almost as surpising as the results of...
[/SBLOCK]

*Vanitri is back to himself again. He can't remember as much of this one beyond fragments and disorientation.*

(OOC: Vanitri gains 5 XP)

"Laynie, you remember a lot about Medibarian history, right? Do you remember the Mage Queen's familiar's name?"

Vanitri nods, "That's right. Her name eluded me. And yes, she was. Did you ever have a cat yourself?"

Vanitri goes chasing lights again.

[sblock=Blown Theory #1]
This tower is of the Mage Queen, and Laynie is in fact the daughter of the mage queen, which adds a bit more to how she pairs up with Vanitri later, and would have been very cool.

Technicaly still possable if the names have changed over time, but unlikely.[/sblock]

[SBLOCK=RE: Blown Theory #1]Technically, I believe there is enough information to uniquely identify the answer, assuming 100% recall of random trivial facts[/SBLOCK]

"Well, Elektra had a kitty that we played with. I don't remember any from before, so not unless I was really little."
