The Crux of the Matter

"Maybe it was Jassin then. It doesn't matter, really."

"So what happened to him, anyway? Spira thought he would protect Laynie with his life--we even went to the trouble of freeing him from down there so that he could accompany her out--he like Laynie and unlike us has a corporeal form that allows him to leave this tower, in this case the render."

"The Render apparently was killed by some adventurers who were unsure of it's motives, though Laynie believes one of them murdered it. I've never got a very straight story about it, just that she doesn't like Mongrel because of it."

"I told you--an orcish priest of Mongrel named Scun murdered it in cold blood after it saved all of our lives from more orcs and an evil render and took a blow meant for me and one of their number. All of those people are despicable. And now...they didn't just kill a gentle creature that loved me and never hurt anyone without cause, they killed my foster father, Vanitri. Some day, I will make him pay..."

"Layne, Vengance gets you nothing, and the hate gives him more power over you than you could ever wish. Let him go, and if you wish true vengance, inform him of what he did, and let him regret it the rest of his life."

"He doesn't care--he won't regret because he is evil. He needs to die before he hurts someone else, but I can't do that yet...And let's not lose focus of what's important here. I'm just grateful to see my Mommy again...or at least you parts of her here...."

Vanitri looks to the mommies for help. "When you find him, see if he is the same man he was then. People change Laynie, these aspects of your mother are a good example, as am I."

"I think she should pretend to be the creature's friend and then stab it when it's not expecting," Guile offers helpfully.

*Termina semi-glares at her reproachfully.*

"Okay, okay. I don't mean it. But she should still totally kill it."

"I think we should all be friends!"

"If that is the path your heart has set, Laynie, you should follow it to the end. Look to your determination and see if that is what you truly want, and if it is, you must do it, but try not to be blind to other paths, though you be determined to follow the one ahead."

"Obviously don't go after it unless you're safe from having it do the same spear thing to you that it did to the render though..."

"I bet with this kind of advice, if anything is left of Mo's consciousness, she is wishing she could be here to say something else," Senex chuckles slightly.

"No wonder this place blew up," Vanitri says, shaking his head.

"So, we simply have to break the seal and kill Sin. Sounds simple enough. How much time does that leave us to get out of here then?"

"No wonder this place blew up," Vanitri says, shaking his head.

"Hey, I'm Guile, kid. That's what I do. And for your information, it was not guile that led to that explosion."

"Truthfully, though we are still alive and not...taken by Eve as wraiths like some of our sisters, that doesn't make us the best choices for an inspirational maternal chat. I'm an archetype of determination--the best advice I can give is that which I follow myself, to never give up. Mo...Motherhood would have said to be careful."

"Heck, Empathy or Love would have had different answers too if they weren't wraiths now. Or Joy's sister Xu..."

*Joy starts to cry.*

"Don't talk about Xu, Guile--you know Joy's easily upset..."

"Yeah yeah, I know. Sorry kid..."
"So, we simply have to break the seal and kill Sin. Sounds simple enough. How much time does that leave us to get out of here then?"
"Killing Sin? I doubt you could, but that would be a fun bonus. No, you want the Temporal Crux. Take that out and...well, I'm not sure what will happen, but Sin and Eve will lose...Fuge will be avenged..."

"I believe that either this place will be destroyed completely, or it will be lost in a slipstream and never return to the normal world, or it will stabilise and return to normal, and we, all us aspects...we will die."

"Ah, so we're either stranded here or you all die? That sounds plesant," Vanitri says with a sigh. "Certaintly better than this tower tearing a whole in the fabric of time and taking the world with it though."
