The Dance of Souls

The talon? So these are members of the ashen talon. Perhaps that is the object which protects their minds from infiltration, interesting. We shall have to remove it from their possession as quickly as possible.

*Azaroth casts detect magic as quietly as possible* What does he see?

*after casting the spell Azaroth will follow the cart in the side and say the following.*

*Azaroth will whisper* Beamer do you have your silent image spell prepapred? Target something on the road, turn it in to a snake. We shall scare their horses. There is one of them holding an artifact of a talon. I'd place my bets that that is what shields their mind. I shall attempt to hit the one carrying it with sling bullet. Be prepared for confrontation.

As soon as the wagon appears, Beamer casts Mage Armor on himself and loads his crossbow.

He would have like to set up some kind of roadblock around the next bend, a downed tree, several large rocks, or a small trench. Basically to make it so that if they try to run toward the keep then they will come around a corner and smack into a downed tree, hopefully damaging the wagon and/or horses. Once the roadblock is constructed, we wait for them to get just passed our position and open fire. While building the roadblock, Banion should keep watch in case someone comes along before they are finished.

If the group does not have time or resources to construct a roadblock, Beamer will follow Azaroth's suggestion and use his silent image scroll to create a large snake coiled in the road. Just before reading the scroll, he says, "Kill the driver first. As soon as I quit concentrating, the snake will disappear and the road will be clear."

Initiative:12
Edit: 1d20 Tiebreaker roll (same initiative and dex as Beamer) 15

Banion will attempt to position himself so he may make an attack in the surprise round by throwing a mindblade from within 30'. He will try to position himself on higher ground, anticipating that someone will charge at him at some point, and trying to get every advantage. Unless the mages do something first that would change the situation, he will first target the driver.

Banion's first shot will likely hit and cause 5 damage 1d20+9= 24, 1d4+2=5. An additional +2 to hit will apply if Banion is unseen.

Initiative: 15

Azaroth will ready a sling bullet and let it fly. While still retaining cover he will target the driver. His cover interfered with his shot as he misses 1d20+2=5

(Note for climbers - the slope downwards is about 3 squares everywhere. Climb DC is 15. Not a very good map, but serves the purpose)

Init:
Azaroth - 15
Beamer - 12
Banion - 12
Gur - 9
The Other Guys - Unknown/Surprised

Banion's illusionary snake brings the cart to a halt as the horses refuse to continue, despite the attempts of the driver (5). She urges the horses to move on, as Azaroth's sling bullet whirls past her. "Ambush! Arm! Position!" she yells out, and then Banions mind blade pierces her shoulder, but she remains concious. Gur's arrow scratches her (1 point of damage).

Beamer maintains concentration on the snake, making it move around a bit. He will continue concentrating until the driver is felled, or abandons the reigns. If possible without breaking his line of sight to the "snake", Beamer will drop prone in his current position (L7?).

OOC: AC 19, 23 vs Ranged.

Azaroth shall cast Magic Missle at the Driver from cover still

His armor does not seem to be getting in the way. Spell Failure: 1d100=61

Magic Missle Hits: 1d4+1=3

OOC: Knight what did Azaroth see (if anything) when he cast Detect Magic.

(Sorry, must have missed that - There appear to be several weak auras in the wagon, about 10. The amount of auras make it difficult to ascertain, but you get the impressions of the probing tendrils of divination magic, and the uncertain edges of illusion magic from the talon you can clearly see.)
