The death knight's simplest special ability

First Post
Can a death knight (MM2) use its touch attack to heal itself? The entry reads that the touch attack uses negative energy, and undead are healed by negative energy, right? The death knight doesn't need to worry about the Constitution damage of his own touch attack as he is undead (and besides, doesn't have a Constitution score).

If that is the case, a death knight would have infinite "healing" available, as he could simply keep using the touch attack on himself and his followers. Quite a practical use of this simple ability, wouldn't you agree? :D

Sur eseems to. It's not that big of deal in combat as the amount is about equal to a CLW and does take an action to do.

It wasn't necessarily in combat. One of the undead's weaknesses are that they don't heal naturally, and with a death knight on their team, they now possess a limitless access to healing. Wouldn't a cleric with a "cure light wounds at will" ability be great?

And by the way, does it make sense that the sample death knight in the MM2 has an inflict light wounds spell prepared?

I imagine that they wouldn't, even if they could, out of sheer embarassment. Could you imagine the scene at the gaming table when the DM announces, "The Death Knight touches himself."

Check p.6 in the MM; intelligent undead heal 'naturally', however unnatural they are.

Though the prerequisites are a burden, innate spell with CLW would be pretty nice, or CMW at epic levels.

Well, I was thinking of his "mindless" followers... Skeletons, zombies, and the like. Undead with no Intelligence score do not heal naturally.

That, or rolling a natural 1 and missing. ;)

How about a death night bard? Signature song will be "When I think about you I touch myself" and as it enters battle against the PCs, is constantly singing this song. Bonus points for playing any version of this song as the PCs fight. Double bonus if its karaokee.

If a death knight "touches himself" he loses Charisma. If his Charisma falls to zero then he ceases to exist.

In other words, it's like saying you can cast Cure Light Wounds x times per day.
