The difficulties of finding a game

Finding other players is, in my opinion, the #1 challenge of the hobby. The most successful technique I used was to post notices at game shops, and likewise read notices posted there. Good luck in your search!

That's how I found my current group. After a year of gaming drought, my wife noticed the posting at a bookstore and copied the info down for me (sometimes to her regret, like this past Saturday when she forgot I'd be playing and thought I would be home to help with the kids while she got some homework done). We play every other Saturday - usually.

You're in Ottawa, Canada. In a matter of months, everything will be frozen over and people will bury themselves in Ice Caves. You should have plenty of gamers then!

Or preferably invite him to a tavern for some ale. Hey, it works in game, right? ;)

My players would pick his pocket. :]

I am sad to say that in Canada, gamers hibernate through the winter. If I dont find a game before then, I will have to wait until next spring.

On a more serious note, I think I have found a lead on a game via www.rpgregistry.com.

Yay me.

That's interesting. I always found it to be the other way around. Everyone suddenly gets too busy in the summer and we end up starting again in the fall. (That's even without students.)

I knew the Ice Caves rumors were true ;)

When I lived in Vermont, it took me about 3 years to find a group. They weren't all that great of a group, but they were gamers.

My current group was gathered from meetup.com. We've been going strong for 18 months.

I'm lucky in that I haven't lacked gamers for years. I lack time to play as much as I want mind you and with some of my friends who I never see otherwise due to scheduling conflicts but I'm good.

1. Message boards. En World isn't bad, but WoTC, RPG.net and other sites are good places to go too.

2. RPGA: It's there for a reason.

3. Colleges: Most colleges I know have some type of sci-fi club.

4. Game Stores: Even if the store is a while away, it's often worth investigating.

For my regular game, I still game with friends in the city which is about a 45 minute drive for me depending on traffic.

Gaming is generally not convinent, but is fun!
