The EN World Selfie Thread

For instance, there was a school here in D/FW called Carter High. In the 1980s-90s, it was so crime ridden that it seemed like there was a Carter student arrested every month.
The high school I went too in the early 90s was pretty bad. There were a lot of guns and fights. Two girls got into a fight in wood shop and one girl hit the other in the head with a ballpeen hammer. Lot of after school fights or kids getting randomly jumped. Couple kids good busted with handguns, but the incident I recall the most was in my senior year the security guard, Mr. Steel, got shot in the leg. Two kids got into a fight, and one pulled out a gun and the security guard got in between them and took one for the team. They installed metal detectors I think the year after. I haven't heard anything on the news in the intervening years, so I imagine they cleaned it up. Although my neighbor's son goes there now and she was driving him there the first day of his freshman year about 3 years ago and there were 3-4 kids chasing and beating someone up a half block from the school at 8AM, so who knows. The Buffalo School system has a lot of problems with incidents after hours that start in school.

My Mom was a music teacher at Landry in NOLA while my grandfather was a principal there. They had similar stories, but one that stood out for me was “The Day They Set The Trees On Fire”.

Really, not much to tell beyond the headline, but it should be noted that when fellow New Orleaneans find out where Mom taught, their eyes go wide and their mouths drop open.

Sure I'll bite. New trans pride earrings!

Don't have a lot of older selfies kept around, for reasons that I would assume are obvious, but I did find one from eight years ago, if you wanted to see how magical estrogen is:

In some ways, you’re not far off. He had an ever present aura of fear & respect.

He was a smart, driven man, and no-nonsense. He channeled that into becoming an educator. He taught HS & college courses, and was even a principal- actually, the first black man to be a principal of a white school in NOLA.

There’s all kinds of professionals who have told me stories of how he disciplined them into getting their act together. Walking around NOLA with him was almost a political act as you’d be seen with him as he waved back to those who knew him. Someone made Rev. Jesse Jackson cross the street to meet him. His presence occasionally caused Mardi Gras parades to pause.

His protégés cleaned up schools the likes of which they made action films about.

TBH, I’m surprised they haven’t named a school or building after him yet.
The reality is that non-white is a problem for naming public buildings. Shouldn't be, but is.
Did he have a relative in Anchorage AK? I knew a chap who looked like a skinny version of him.

This was me in about 2015:

Saw this today, and saw this thread today, which I found pretty funny

In fall 2014, I was subbing at a local high school, and two juniors (letter jackets for class of 2016), in the music department. It's lunch time, I'm reading a rulebook for an RPG... and one of them starts making an obvious pass. "Hey, cutie, you new here?" is pretty unsubtle. That was the day I decided I needed more facial hair.

I'd been accused of being a student several times by security staff at several high schools.
