The Enworld Exalted Discussion Thread

A fair amount of stuff just posted to the official boards as well.
Another very good message board resource for Exalted (often more useful than even the official boards IMO) are the RPG.net boards. In addition to a large and very helpful Exalted community, many Exalted authors and artists also post there on a somewhat regular basis.

Re: Merits and Flaws

At least the guy who wrote them was vocal about his own "I hate Merits and Flaws" stance. With luck, he'll take out everything that was broken about the original flaws and merits, and make them a little more workable and less abusive.

That is encouraging. Much as I like M&F, they are ripe for abuse when unregulated. Used properly, though, they do give the ST some nice plot hooks. I hear that some of them are quite interesting (like one that gives a Solar the ability to do something cool in combination with a Lunar). Plus I'm racking up enemies left and right with my Abyssal, so I hope the Enemy flaw is included. :-D

Too bad it won't be out in time for my next session. I'd be interested to see these new combat rules in action.

Anyone have a link to all the Exalted Covers?
If you click on 'Description' for a book in the White Wolf catalog there's a pic of the book's cover as well. They're rather small though.

For more on Exalted art, possibly including covers, check out the respective artists' home pages. Here are a few to get you started:

Ross Campbell
Melissa Uran

Fair warning - when browsing the artists' home pages, keep in mind that not all images on their pages might be work safe. This includes some Exalted art. (Ross Campbell, for example, has done quite a few Exalted pictures with nipple piercings.) Please do not directly link to such pictures in EN World. Thanks.

If your PC party is in the West/Southwest even some of the time, definitely. It's very, very good.

If your group spends all of its time hiking through the ice wastes of the North or the jungles of the East, the book will be of limited utility, however. ;)

My group is actually hiking thorugh the North at the moment :) However, that's not gonna last and I did promise my players players piratey goodness at some point in the game :). (Of course justpirates isn't enough for them, they want Kung Fu Zombie Pirates!)

- The book doesn't have many new 'crunchy bits' (e.g., artifacts, hearthstones, charms, etc.) if that's important to you, though it has some stuff reprinted from Savage Seas (because SS is out of print) and some other sources.
Hmm not bothered by lack of crunchy bits. I'll probably have most of these books, but reprinting means I won't have to carry all those books when I run a game away from home.

What it does have, though.... <snip>
their non-human progenitor was
a Primordial, though their bloodline has been weakened over the millennia since the Solars defeated the Primordials. The Primordial in question, Kimberry, still lives on as a Yozi and is worshipped by the Lintha, though.
)

Cool. Thanks for the info, good thing I ordered it then.

In game? I'm not sure you'd get points for enemies you make in game. :)

I kind of agree with the school of thought that lead to the Nemesis background in Adventure!. If you have an enemy, that usually means that the GM will use that enemy instead of some random bad guy when making adventures. So, the enemy usually doesn't really make things harder for you. Instead, it's an advantage: you really hate the guy, so you get back Willpower when your enemy is involved.

Ordinarily, I'd agree with you. However, since the merits and flaws weren't available at the start of the game, I'm used to being able to take flaws and merits in equal point value once they become available. But that's not been an issue with the WW games for some time, and I'm playing with a different ST, so I may not be able to bend him to my will. :D

Hm. I'm not sure I'd allow it in my games but as long as it's a one-time thing (i.e., you take enemies you already have as Flaws when Flaws become available but don't insist on getting points for any future enemies you make in game after this point) and you don't take more points in Flaws than are allowed it could be alright. :)

Assuming Enemy will indeed be viable Flaw in Exalted, considering most of the world is already out to get you anyway. :D For a Solar or an Abyssal such as yourself, at least.

The addition of merits and flaws should be interesting, though I see alot of people agree with the idea of disallowing certain merits, such as unbondable. Something I have done since my last game of V:tM.
I don't see any problem with ret-conning characters as long as a merit or flaw didn't have an affect that would have made a huge difference from the start. I will definately add them to my game, as they help add flavor to characters.
