The Enworld Exalted Discussion Thread

something I found at the official boards

<<That is there, to some degree, but there is more than that as
well.

Chapter Three: Mortal Thaumaturgy includes "splats" for the different types of mortal sorcerers, unique backgrounds, merits and flaws for them and the specific game mechanics thereof. There are three kinds of mortal sorcery.

Arts: These are the tricks that anyone can do with Occult. WHile you can "buy Arts" in order to make you more skilled at performing them, these are simply extra dice. The Arts include Summoning (of ghosts, beasts, spirits, elementals and man), Warding (including Talisman creation and exorcisms) and Astrology.

Sciences: There are four Sciences - Alchemy (potion and ointment making), Geomancy (attunement to the natural Essence flows of one's surroundings), Enchantment (the creation of items of magic) and Weather Working. These, also, are done with only the Occult skill, but each individual formula or procedure must be purchased for a single XP each.

Rituals: These are high ritual magics, each unique and offering a different effect. They range in power from the simple Calling the Flame's Beneficence (which summons up a candle-flame sized bit of fire) to the more-impressive (but still not even Terrestrial Circle in scope) Dishonest Spirit's Rebuke (which creates prayer strips that allow the wielder to burn one of the strips and strike a dematerialized spirit, provided they know where it is).

p.s. Darkness, reutbing0 are you putting the size tags inside the quote tags or outside? Does it matter?

p.p.s. reutbing0 did you actually order the PG from Amazon yet? I didn't get an email for a StL request and am thus left wondering.

Inside, but I have no idea if it matters.

I did order and you are on the list. Do you perhaps have e-mail notification for STL turned off? Vrylakos didn't get an e-mail either but did actually receive the discount. Try to check under "Your Acount" under the "Shopping Lists & Gift Registries"-header (at the bottom of the page) and click on the Share the Love link. Hope that helps !

I initially was going to be a Twilight ghost-hunting sorcerer from the West, but one of the other players later chose to play a Twilight Immaculate Monk sorcerer which happened to have an identical spell selection to mine, I decided that we'd be stepping on each other's schtick too much, and I always play the wizard, so I went with an Eclipse merchant prince from House Ragara.

Well at least this way you don't have to worry about pissing off the Dawn caste when you catch him at ground zero with Death of Obsidian Butterflies. They don't like that, trust me.

That's my spam account, so that may have caused the problem. After clicking on a link from one of the emails I got from someone else I saw that it was included in there, whew.

Those who are in the US:

You might be able to get the Player's Guide early; some people have mentioned on other boards that Borders (and possibly Barnes & Noble and other places) is already selling it. :)

Heh this weekend educators are getting 25%+ off everything except comic books at borders (AND FREE COOKIES) so I'll be perusing for the Player's Guide along with maybe a few literary things to sandwich it between.. you know, for the childrens.

I stopped by my local Borders this evening, and perused the PG. Given that one ought not read for too long a book you have not yet bought, I limited my attention to the merits and flaws and some of the Exalted Power Combat. From what I have seen, I like the Player's Guide. I would have bought it right there, if it were not for the fact that I had preordered it from WW and had recieved notification that it shipped today. Still, though I must wait, I wait with the satisfaction that comes from knowing that my copy will be unsullied by an unknown number of readers.

Update on future releases, from the official boards.

So, I just returned from a panel at SimCon in Rochester, NY about the current and future plans of White Wolf, with guests including one Geoffrey C. Grabowski. Having been given the ok to share what I heard there, I'll mention what I gleaned.

The release schedule for the rest of the year looks more or less like this:

AB: Earth
Savant and Sorcerer
AB: Fire
Children of the Bull God (I *think* that's the title...?)
The Book of Bone & Ivory
Exalted: The Fair Folk
AB: Water

I believe -- might have something out of order near the end there.

Geoff mentioned a few things about the upcoming Aspect books. Earth, of course, has Mnemon in it, who Geoff described, succinctly, as "a :):):):)" -- and more elaborately as being about the most vile person in the Realm. Apparently she's not a completely twinked out Sorcery
monstrosity, though -- she's only statted with about six spells. AB: Fire apparently turned out quite well, with a really good writeup of Cathak Cainan by Kraig Blackwelder.

GCG can't tell us what Savant and Sorcerer is yet (though he says he should be able to reasonably soon). Children of the Bull God is the Harborhead/Cult of Ahlat book; it apparently has some interesting material on the life story of Ahlat, as well as some solid material on what the imperial influence in Harborhead is like. (Geoff mentioned that there's a significant British-colonial influence to it.)

The Book of Bone & Ivory is the exciting discovery here -- it's to be a 168-page (Outcaste-sized) book of Necromancy and Underworld source material. Geoff and Jim Kiley mentioned that this book will probably give you everything you need to run a real solid Heroic Ghosts or Underworld-centric Abyssals game.

Other notes: The Fae hardback will be titled "Exalted: The Fair Folk," not GWM -- Geoff decided to stick with a consistent nomenclature for the hardbacks. The Scarlet Manual of Proper Bearing that Geoff mentioned offhandedly at one point is a 2005 release. And the Alchemicals book is officially the first hardback of 2005. (In news that'll probably make quite a few people happy, our own Nephilpal is the one he tapped to write the charms.)

Exalted: the Fair Folk, I just plain hated it. Graceful Wicked Masks, in a word, cool. EtFF, it just pale in comparison.

Why? Geoff, why?

It's weird that no-one knows anything about Savant & Sorcerer yet - even though it's coming relatively soon.

BTW, the other book is going to be called the Book of Bone & Ebony, apparently. Not that anyone, anywhere is calling it that despite the desperate attempts of the author to convince them otherwise. ;)
/me still remembers the 'Tomb of Blood' class book for D&D 3.0. :D

Must be something magic related though, eh?

Can't help thinking it deals with the Sids (colleges) or maybe Mortal Thaumaturgy (sciences) and their (one, the other, or both) connection to sorcery. THough it would be odd to have a book dedicated to them when there still hasn't been one devoted to Lunars or Abyssals yet.

What I find really odd about it is how GCG can't say anything about it yet.

I remembered that after I woke up in the morning (after I posted it).

Reminds me of the discussion in the movie forum about the Ep3 title, does it matter what it's called? We'll just call it Ep3 no matter what.

Question?

I am just about finished reading Exalted and I have not looked at a WW product since, I think, Mage came out. How does the Exalted compare in power to the other WoD beings?
