The ENWorldian work ethic.

I've noticed lately a lot more of those "Great discussion peoples! It was getting a bit dull here at work." lines being present in threads. Are these people just sitting at their desks surfing the net while on the clock, or are they on their lunch break? Just curious.

I have read/posted a few times from class, when we were in a room with computers and internet access. Usually, I half paid attention to the lecture, half read either these boards, or surfed elsewhere. Since that class was on Tuesdays/Thursdays, I also hit 8-Bit Theatre, which is also updated on Tu/Th.

I assume that there are a lot of folks who are on the boards during work, and a lot more that surf during lunch breaks.

Well, my lunch break starts around 12:30, but it doesn't really end until I go home. It sort of just becomes intermittent. I figure as long as I have some food at my workstation I can claim to still be having lunch.

My job involves a lot of scripting / testing / analysis / rescripting and so on. While the scripts are running (sometimes as long as 15 minutes), I will take a few moments and go over to EN World and do some posting.

My boss is aware, and as long as I do not collect any backlog in my work, if perfectly OK with that.

My situation is similar to that of KDLadage.

I work a tech job where it's either too busy to even open a web browser, or so slow as to make you cry.

So when it's slow, my boss is cool with PG-rated surfing, as long as my (outstanding) quality of work isn't affected. ;)

When I worked in an office (not Fantasy Flight, this stuff doesn't work on gamers :D), I had a jester's hat in my cube. If I was wearing that hat, woe to anyone that tried to even talk to me. I would jump up and act all insane, "CAN YOU NOT SEE THAT I'M WEARING MY JESTER'S CAP?!?!"

That was enough to get them to leave me alone, and after a while I didn't have to go crazy anymore. I could do whatever I wanted when that cap was on. Of course, I usually didn't come in til after lunch anyway. :D

Yes. Welcome to the world of tech support.

work

I work in a call center for Fedex. We do inbound tech support, and I am in Tier II (the group that supports the agents that talk to the customers), so it is usually pretty dead. Seeing that I'm sitting at a computer with a nice fat T1 connection with little to do, I spend a lot of my day surfing or reading (and of course hanging out at EN World) . :D

Tech support for a small ISP that I work at/co-own ;)

We are either busy as hell or dead. While dead I am here all day.
Since I am my own boss, I ok'd it :D
