The Fifth Sorceress, does it ever get very good?

Flexor the Mighty!

18/100 Strength!
I've been trying to get through this novel. I'm at the section where the Sorceresses are getting ready to make thier invasion. Does this books pace ever pick up? Is it worth the effort to finish?

Overall..I'd rate it higher than Terry Goodkind's stuff. But realistically no. It's not worth it if you're looking for grand fantasy. Martin and probably JV Jones' novels are more your speed probably. That or Michael Stackpole's latest trilogy. It's a very stirring read.

I don't blame you. I just read the first two because the cover art looked cool. Overall it had as much meat on it as a Gauntling. Or a skeleton. I'd say if you want something REALLY good, pick up Lord of Snow and Shadows. Some kick ass stuff. It's obviously written by a first time novelist, but the descriptions, the magic, and even the world seem very much alive. Very passionately written. Think you'll enjoy that.

Who's JV Jones, and what does he/she write?

JV Jones is a female writer and she wrote the Baker's Boy trilogy. (At least that was the title of one of the books) The series I'm liking is Cavern of Black Ice, Castle of Grey Ice is the second book now out.

I have to agree, The Fifth Sorceress is not a great book. I finished it, but that's because of special circumstances. (I have a half-hour walk to work and then another half-hour walk home every day; so I borrow lots of books on CD from the library and rip them to MP3 and listen to them on my MP3 player. I wasn't very enthused by the book but, hey, it was better than nothing, so I listened to the whole thing.) I found it somewhat predictable and the places where it deviated slightly from predictability seemed to be intended to shock the reader with little real story value.

Frankly, I'm currently enjoying Dave Barry's Boogers Are My Beat much more.

Everyone like Dave Barry. :p But yeah Fifth Sorceress, not a worth while read if you're looking for substance. If not, it's a good way to kill time. Both it and the sequel, Gates of Dawn, are probably best left to those with time to kill.
