The Fireball Catcher

I was rereading some spells and had a thought about delayed blast fireball. Could you cast the spell, then have someone catch it in a bag of holding or haversack, and keep it in statis till you want to free it?

Now that's a way to have a lot of ammo:)

Neither of those items keeps anything in stasis, so the fireball would still detonate. A glove of storing would do it though.

No, you better Re-reread the spell...

As fireball, except this spell is more powerful and can detonate up to 5 rounds after the spell is cast. The burst of flame detonates with a low roar and delivers 1d8 points of fire damage per caster level. The glowing bead created by the spell can detonate immediately if you desire, or you can choose to delay the burst for up to 5 rounds. You choose the amount of delay upon completing the spell, and the delay cannot change once it
has been set (unless someone touches the bead; see below). If you choose a delay, the glowing bead sits at its destination until it detonates. A creature can pick up and hurl the bead as a thrown weapon (range increment 10 feet). If a creature handles and moves the bead within 1 round of its detonation, there is a 25% chance that the bead detonates while the creature is handling it.

Now I may be out to lunch on this, it has happend before. But that sounds to me like the fireball is gonna blow (at a max delay of 5 rnds) like it or not! Unless bags of holding / haversacks have some type of time stoping abbility I don't know of, & I'm sure they don't.

:)

[edit] Kreynolds is correct, you could use gloves of storing [edit]

There IS an item that could use that ... what a wonderful, wonderful idea! Thanks you for sharing your thoughts. (I'd kiss you, tounge, no tounge - your choice but you are a stranger on the internet after all:D )

DMG, PG 217. Glove of Storing
"The item is held in stasis and shrunk down so small within the palm of the glove that it cannot be seen."

Imagine a wizard wearing two glove of storing...or anyone for that matter...and a snap of their fingers (a free action) have a delayed fireball blast spell ...er...in hand.

Guess what my next main villian is going to haaavvvee? Guess what my next main villian is going to haaavvvee? Muwahahaha.

Edited...doh, I go away for a minute to answer the question and waalaa...someone comes in and answers the same answer...

Hasn't the Sage ruled in the past that a glove of storing cannot effect magic spells (precisely in regard to delayed blast fireball)?

Sure the gloves can hold the fireball forever.

Unfortunately when you snap your fingers and bring the fireball back you are in for a rude surprise.

You if more than 5 rounds have passed that DB Fireball is going to instantly explode in your hand.
