The Foes of the Wand wizard varient.

I have a "borrowed from a Complete Wizards Handbook" idea for a NPC wizard varient that can't use magic items
period...

Without going into the campaign stuff I would like to ask if the bonuses the class gains in exchange for this restriction are fitting

+1 spell of each level (as a specialist would get)

2 free spells learned each level in addition to the usual

2 skill points per level

Swap Scribe Scroll for another feat

The penalty they face. They are not allowed to use magic items, wands etc just don't work. Passive items (like weapons) cause the Wizard to be unable to memorize spells for 24 hours

What say you all, Balanced?

weak. very, very, very weak. Change HD to Die 8. Then it probably is still weak.

His DC's will suck in comparison to someone who can use an item of +4 int (easily doable around level 9). This also means that that guy will have more bonus spells from high int.

His AC will suck because of no rings, bracers and amulets, gloves of dexterity.

No scrolls - He'll need those extra spells.

No potions. Entirely dependent on having a healer in the party.

At higher end levels: No staffs, rods and the very cool rings (spell storing, wizardry)

No stat bonusses of any kind in wondrous items: less HP, less initiative, less AC.

Very, very weak.

It all depends on your campaign. I'd have to say but the other response he plays in a higher magical campaign then most.

This should be a prestige class. I'd up the HD, and skill points. I'd naturally give then +1 to exsisting spell level every level and allow them to increase their familiar as normal. At first level in the class, I'd allow them to trade out any item creation feats for metamagic or other wizardry type feat. I'd give bonuses to spell DC every other level and a stat increase to their spellcasting stat ever 3rd. Possible give them some of the arch mage abilites as well. And free slots. They work as bonus spell slots, the wizard chooses any level of spell he can cast except the highest and gains a free spell per day pof that level. Prabably do that every level. Let's just typwe this up and see what I have. No idea how balanced this is.

Requirements:
Spellcraft 8 ranks
Ability to cast 3rd level arcnae spells.
Cannot use any magical devices including scrolls potions, staffs and anything else magical.

HD: d6
Skill Points: 4 a level
Class Skills: As wizard plus others (not really sure what others)
BAB: Wizard
Saves: Will Good (tried to thing of a reason to have one of the others good, couldn't think of a good one)

Special: At level one must trade out all item creation feats or other wizard type feat.
+1 exisiting spell level every level
All levels stack for familiar improvements
+1 bonus spell every level. THis cannot be the highest level of spell the wizard can cast.
+1 to spell DC Every even level
+1 to spellcasting attribute at levels 3,6, and 9
Bonus Feat at levels 1,5,7. Must be a meta magic feat or other wizardry type feat. Cannot be item creation.

I made it real easy to get into. The powers are pretty good, but giving up all magic items is severe. Interesting version of a forsaker in a way.
