Hey, I grew up with the animated The Hobbit movie as well, and I really like it too. But if they can make LotR as good as they did, then a new The Hobbit can be just as great.

This doesn't take anything away from the fun animated version.

Oh, agreed. I certainly would love a version given the same classy treatment as LotR. Seeing a version of the Hobbit done with an actual Foley artist, for example, would be nice.

I think it'd be nice, but I'm quite fond of the animated version. For a lot of folks my age, it was our introduction to fantasy, and led directly down the path to D&D. I know this is true for both me and at least one of my players.

Add me to those who love the animated Hobbit. I've still got the videotape from when I taped it way back in the mid 1980s. Maybe its time to update to the DVD?

We've got the DVD, which is why my kids have been watching a lot this year. It's nice to see the print cleaned up. There are virtually no extras on it, but c'est la vie. Personally, I wish they had access to the obviously deleted scenes, or at least a little text screen or two discussing the making of it.
