The Hunted (DM: IronSky, Judge: ???)

Devinihm, wilden druid

"I think I recall hearing about a captain waiting for someone while we were fighting those eel freaks. His departure was delayed due to unrest and his passenger not appearing. Maybe that was the captain we are looking for. Let me see if I can find out something more."

Devinihm nods. "Yes, Dartanian's captain should already be prepared for the voyage." The wilden stops a moment, cocking his head sideways, then asks, "Is this what the phrase 'blind followers' means?"

The Hunted: Day 1, Hour 15, Minute 29

Fifteen minutes later, Illarion has, after talking to a dozen captains around the docks, led the group to a small ship with Adventurer painted on the side on the outskirts of the harbor. The captain is in the midst of arguing with a crew member as the group arrives. She looks up as the group walks towards the ship.

"What do you want? This ship is booked," the captain - an elven woman with blond braids down to her lower back - says, glaring at her first mate.

The first mate, a dwarf with a braided white beard just as long shakes his head. "Mr. Gray ain't comin' back. We've spent four days just sitting here losing money. If we don't get more work soon, we're going to start losing crew."

"First Mate Biggs, I'll have you know I gave my word to Dartanian and unlike some races, elves keep their words."

Biggs snorts and rolls his eyes.

Mr Grey won't be coming, unfortunately we were the last to see him alive. We are looking for the evil that pursued him. Raijin bluntly states before looking around unsure how to continue.

Shipmaster! I have dire news, Mr. Grey has been murdered. We seek justice for the crime and have hounded his killer throughout the city. But alas it has fled and we are compelled by honor to seek the evil at its source. For there is an island that it originates from, perhaps you were bound there by his request already? Raijin seems overcome with fervor and urgency and his words carry the usual strength but are also earnest.

The Hunted: Day 1, Hour 15, Minute 31

"Dartanian is dead?" the captain wails. Her eyes go wide and she pales. "You'll... excuse me."

She rushes off to the captains cabin. Biggs shakes his head and turns to Raijin. "She tried to hide it, but I think Captain Elai was in love with Mr. Gray. Our agreement with him was that we would take him and his fellow treasure-hunters to the island once he knew where it was and ship them home in exchange for half the earnings of whatever was discovered."

He looks over at the cabin. "The captain is a bit distraught right now, but I'm sure she could be convinced to take you to the island as long as the same agreement stands. If you're going to kill whatever killed Mr. Gray in the process, all the better."

"If we have a deal, I'll try to calm the captain down a bit and get her out here to talk with you. Name's Biggs by the way."

"Glad to meet you, Biggs, I am Illarion. As for exact location of the island, we have part of the map and few educated guesses, we were hoping experienced captain, especially one with contact with Mr. Gray would recognize enough of it to sail out."

That assumes I want to be in melee instead of taking every possible way (inclulding teleport powers) to get out of it. Maybe improved defenses, once I get Essentials...But thanks, I'll consider it at 4th

Having been unusually quiet since the party's meeting with Lieutenant Raiv (perhaps experiencing trepidations of the coming voyage), Auntie Mab breaks her silence to see if she can sway the bargain. "Yes, here's that sketch dearie," she says, handing the map to Biggs.

"We'll certainly avenge poor Mr. Dartanian's death, you can rest assured. About that agreement though... You see, it's come to light in the course of our investigation that the things that killed Mr. Dartanian are very dangerous. Fast moving, immensely strong, and able to walk through walls dearie! Now, we certainly appreciate your services and expertise in helping us reach this island, but as we are bearing the greater risk of death and injury, well a 60-40 split in our favor seems only fair,"
the old woman posits in her most sugary tones.

Devinihm, wilden druid

Devinihm listens quietly to the negotiations. He's learned quickly that he's often confused by what Mab says, but that her tongue is no less silver for his own provincial experience.

The Hunted: Day 1, Hour 15, Minute 35

Biggs looks over the map.

"I think we can find that - we helped Mr. Gray get there a few months ago after spending a month looking for it and stumbled upon it by chance. Hit some bad storms going in and out, so we weren't able to chart where it was and nearly got killed by the natives while we were waiting for Mr. Gray to come back. After a couple days, we figured he was dead and would have left if Captain Elai hadn't ordered us to stay."

He turns to Mab.

"Well, assuming the captain hasn't even agreed to go yet and all this information about a murdering ghost or whatever doesn't make me more inclined to give you a bigger share. Tell you what, we'll keep the 50/50, I'll go talk the captain into this, and we'll sail out on the next tide. Sound like a plan?"
