The Hunted (DM: IronSky, Judge: ???)

Devinihm, wilden druid

Devinihm examines the compartment and finds more of those short silver-gray hairs that were found at the other scenes. There doesn't seem to be a false bottom and the compartment is solid on the sides as well.

The compartment bottom, however, does seem to be made of different wood than the sides, a rare wood called golden-bough best known its shavings that are used in certain rituals - scribing magical scrolls and the like. Devinihm has never seen a whole panel of it before...

Instantly the bottom of it flares up, revealing what looks like a magical tracing of part of a map...

"This must be why the golden-bough," Devinihm says, though he frowns. "But to have a panel of this, when it is hard often to collect even shavings, this must have cost much..."[/olive]

As the group discovers that the map pieces appear to adjoin, but only to form half of a map, the wilden nods.

"This, then," he says. "Four people, four quarters of a map. A piece of a map would fit in Dartanian's coat. And we know the bowl was taken while the picture shows us it had a map. But the wood is still here. If the killer did not have sight like Illarion's, they may not have this piece. We should claim this, keep it. We may be on a scavenger hunt with this hunter..."

Devinihm studies what there is of the map, trying to see if he can determine the region...

"Aye," Rysethynn agrees. "Best we be holdin' onto this. It may lure the creature out. Then we kin see what we're really dealin' with. Though, by the looks o' these places, tha' may not turn out too healthy fer us."

She looks over Devinihm's shoulder and joins him in trying to see if she recognizes anything about the map that might indicate the area it is showing.

"Maybe we should prepare a place for combat and put the announcement that we're selling the map to highest bidder? Also, now that we know what are we looking for, we should hurry and visit all the locations again, since it seems The Hunter didn't find this piece of the map. Maybe he overlooked another part? We may assume the bowl is taken, but maybe others weren't as obvious?" - comments Illarion while wracking his mind to match the map to something familiar either from history or from the stories of lost treasures. Focusing on his last sentence, he tries to picture the scene in the house, but soon gives up as the bowl was the map, there is no point in looking for the hidden piece.

"Let's see the last crime scene. Maybe we should get the gold too, so that those poor guards can report back and relieved of this boring duty. We'll count and report it once we're done, of course." he smirks toward Raijin

The Hunted: Day 1, Hour 3, Minute 18

Illarion copies the map hurriedly while the others examine it and try to determine what and where it is that it depicts. With only half a map - and that part unlabeled - it is difficult to determine anything more that it seems to show several islands...

Illarion thinks back to the previous locations, but doesn't come up with much.

"Is that everything?" ask Krav after the group has a good look around to the room. "I think we should go to the tavern before we attempt to lure an Oni that is tearing people apart. We are also leaving the gold here." continues Krav turning to Illarion with a smile.

"I am not a strong one," Devinihm says, bark-covered fingers trying to claw at the wooden panel, "So if someone can help us remove the wood? It should not stay here if the hunters return to discover what it shows."

The wilden looks about to see if there's any kind of crowbar or other tool to aid in the removal of the enchanted wood plank as he tries to find leverage on his own.

((rolls to follow))

Raijin nods in agreement with Krav. If these were half of the map there are two more pieces if divided evenly. We need to visit the last site. His face turns grave. I should hope that this board is the piece rather than the echo of one, since there have been four attacks so far.

Between Devinihm and Earth and a handy found crowbar, the golden-bough panel is removed. Underneath is just the plain wood bottom of the compartment.

GM: Just a reminder, the new Aid Another rules set the DC at 10 + 1/2 your level. If you succeed, you add +2 to their roll, if you fail, it's -1. 22 was still plenty though.

As Devinihm and Earth wrench up the plank, the wilden studies it, then shakes his head.

"There was a plain bottom here," he says, pointing. "I do not think there is a reason to add another of magical wood unless it was to hold the secret map. And I think the hunter would have taken it if he had Illarion's vision to read it with. But I do not know for certain."

Devinihm holds the plank out to Earth. "I think you are strongest, Earth," he says. "And can protect this piece best, if you will?"
