The Invasion of Mori OOC [3.5][planar][PAUSED]

Shayuri - I meant to ask this earlier:
[sblock]Have you been including Roillard in your messages? I tend to take statements such as "the group from the Abyss" literally (which would leave him a bit clueless with regard to certain things.)[/sblock]

Ahh, yes. If I limit any of my messages, I'll specify who gets them and who doesn't. "The group from the Abyss" merely refers to the fact that we all came to Mori from the Abyss...even if we didn't all originate our existences there. :)

Mmm. The way high-LA races, particularly fiends, work is this: They are usually much more powerful than their ECL against things significantly below their ECL (to the point of being invincible - they can come away totally unharmed thanks to DR and SR coupled with sneakiness and SLAs), and sometimes a little less powerful than their ECL against things at or above their ECL.

I personally think that this is a good thing, as the mechanics reinforce the "fiends enjoy rampaging through hordes of less powerful beings, but don't like fair fights against really powerful opponents" concept. Though it may be a bit frustrating when you first start out, playing a fiend involves a slightly different mindset than playing a more standard PC race. Social interaction and treachery are your tools as much out of necessity as out of disposition. You're also often better suited to them - observe how safe Loriel was when she was scouting, as opposed to how dangerous it would have been for a human scout.

That said, high LA always sucks for casters. It's just a question of deciding if the benefits gained outweigh the levels lost.
Or you can sidestep the issue and show that you don't have to be demonic to be evil. :]

;)

Moritheil -
Would you like me to stat up Kaelvorr's cohort and/or followers? I didn't want to presume to because of the obvious advantages involved. But if it would save you a hassle I'd be more than happy to ;)

Voadam - As stated previously (don't worry, you don't have to go dig it up), you do get max hit points for the first HD.

Voidrazor - If you'd like, feel free to stat up an average 1ECL follower and a cohort.

SG - Gotcha.

I know everyone keeps checking, and round 3 isn't resolved yet. Take heart - we have 8 out of 10 replies thus far, and it will probably go up this weekend.

I haven't been idle - there is a lot of plot to unravel after the fight.

Sorry about the delay. Horrible Plot Twist 1 (planned from the start - check the rules forum if you don't believe me) reveals its ugly head! One kobold is not what it seems!

Shayuri - Sorry about the abruptness. It's a bit of a rotten thing to pull without first consulting the player, and I acknowledge that. I did wrestle with whether or not this should be allowed to happen. On the positive side, you'll be able to bring in that lower-LA character you wanted. :o You will of course get full XP, so don't worry about that.

SG - Sorry about any confusion. I was interrupted in midpost, and your init hadn't been run yet.

Well, I feel that I should give some hints now that all the cards are on the table, so to speak, so my hint is this: "go nova." To clarify, I'm not saying that this encounter is above party EL. Rather, I'm telling you this because I have allowed the party to think that the encounter was far below the party EL . . . and we are starting to see that this is not the case.

Oh yes, and if you all like the feel of rolling your own virtual dice, I'll allow you to do so at Invisible Castle. Originally I had intended to do all the rolling, but I've given it some thought and people might feel a little bit better if they knew that, say, Kelteror rolled a 9 and missed the mage (which is in fact what happened.)
