The Invasion of Mori OOC [3.5][planar][PAUSED]

Sorry that things slowed down a bit - I was waiting on Aldred's move, then I was trying to figure out what Aldred would do, then I was looking up Gabriel's spell. For the next couple weeks things are going to be really hectic in RL but I'll try to keep it moving.

moritheil, I will include all spell descriptions in my posts in the future. My bad for not realizing your books were AWOL. :)

Not your fault; I normally have BoVD. :)

Regarding this fight, I think the encounter started out formidable but some abysmally low rolls on the kobold side pretty much turned it one-sided fast. The golem can dish out punishment, but that means a lot less when the ones taking it are regenerators and fast healers with DR. All in all I'd say everyone deployed well.

Voidrazor, I realize it was a little annoying with the protection from alignment spells, but they were an available resource and the kobolds knew they were going to be fighting demons :P I think dispels could have done them in - Silhouette managed to dispel a few things.

The fight isn't technically over, but I'll be amazed if you can lose to a nonthinking automaton.

Eee. This is the first time I've played a high level Beguiler...and one of the few times I've had a chance to play a high level arcanist for very long...so I'm kind of feeling my way around the viable strategies. Ironically, statistically this would have been a sort of nightmare fight for me. Constructs and vermin everywhere. :)

And for some reason I thought the Worm template made the recipiant immune to mind affecting effects, or I would have bust out Feeblemind a lot sooner. :)

Even so, I now realize it's best to Dispel first anyway.

Mori...I was thinking of dipping into the Mindbender PrC. Would that be okay?

Which is where spontaneous casters shine - all you need is one known spell that works in this situation. And come to think of it, with Beguilers, you don't even have to waste a known spell slot to have the obscure spells handy!

It's the most natural dip for a Beguiler. By all means.

I think Rose would disagree with you. Poor guy! =(

Well, I'm really thinking broadly. Rose has over 100 hit points and can take a beating and survive to be healed the next round. The casters can't. Furthermore, melee is his thing. What I meant to say with that comment was that we didn't see any golems tearing through the caster ranks while melee characters wound up fighting swarms, for example.

This run of the worm template was pretty interesting. ;)

No worries. Designing encounters to provide a challenge is the DM's job. And FoP's are probably a bit tricky to manage from a DM standpoint. I'm curious though, was there some other factor that was interfering with control over the animated rock?

Sure, I'll tell you as soon as the fight is over.

From a narrative point of view, I'm inclined to just conclude it so the plot can move forward, but I have no idea what people would think of that.
