Firete looks from Chey to the prisoner and then back to Chey and then paused in her song. Let me give you some help there, she says, getting out her wand, pointing it at the prisoner and Chey and muttering a few words. Now, you need not have any fear you will be attacked by our friend here.

She then continues playing her song.

The hobgoblin blinks widely, its eyes darting between Firete and Chey. "Hmm, humans. Or close enough. It is wise to be cautious. Could be a trap. Am not, but can't be trusted. Used to be adviser to chieftain. Heard of this ruin, rumors of power. Told him to come here." He shakes his head slightly. "Was folly. Others already here, already had power. Offered to share with us, but clearly wanted us as slaves. Chieftain was swayed, I was not. I tried to convince him to take us away. You see the marks of my reward."

So far, Rivith doesn't appear to be lying. He also shows no signs of wanting to attack you, although that may just be the spell. He seems bitter but resigned to his fate.

There are no other objects of value in the room.

Rivith nods "They were also humans. Not like you. Native to Kingdom. Drew source from further beneath ruins. We were not allowed to enter the lower levels, but can tell they draw power from there. Necromancers. Disgusting. Let the dead sleep. As for a map?" He chuckles, and then lightly pulls against the chains binding him to the wall. "Afraid I'm a little tied up at the moment."

Cheysuli smiles warmly at the hobgoblin; but with a definite seriousness, talking as she carefully unlocks the manacles, being careful not to agitate the creature's sore wrists. She takes care to stand between Rivith and the cell door.
"You say you cannot be trusted, why is that?"

He grins up at Chey as he rubs his wrists, "Because I could be lying. It can't be certain. Do not confuse civility with honesty. I am not its friend. Indeed, before my imprisonment I have burned its farms, stolen its livestock, and killed its kinsmen. The only difference between my clansmen here and I is that I refuse to bow to necromancers, and humans at that." Rivith stands, first to his full height of nearly seven feat before slouching over, his head at the same level as Chey's. "I am not its friend. However, I would like very much to bring low my betrayers, and so I am willing to help it. I want it to trust me, so I tell it what I am and what I've done. I want it to know what it is dealing with. Might I have something to write with?"

One question though, Firete says. Does the name "oni" mean anything to you?

Rivith's eyes narrow as he turns his head toward Firete. "Yes. Demon, or close enough. The other humans claim to serve one. Didn't catch the name."

Sorry guys. So close. However, you can probably guess that you'll be leveling up after the next fight.

XP Totals for Firete and Yishim:

192 (current xp) + 1250*2/5 (Emissary fight) + 750*2/5 (Prison fight) + 83*5 (time xp for five months) = 1407 xp

And you two actually did get enough xp to level up. As with last time, I'm not actually expecting you to level up now. This is just so you can create your second characters for L4W, if you want. Also need Lord Sess to sign off on this. I'll PM him in a second.
