D&D (2024) The Lackluster Ranger

So, again hypothetically, if a half-caster ranger is too weak, and a full-caster ranger is too strong, there must be some compromise point between half-caster and full-caster that would be roughly balanced; 5e simply has never systemically introduced more granularity into the spellcasting progression.
And this is a good thing. I don't want to see 0.763 casters. Indeed I find the concept of "half caster" to be its own type of ugly mess and would far rather see more classes be like warlocks and do their own thing rather than being spell level beancounters.

And given that a substantial group of people want non-casting rangers larding them down with more spells is not I think a good solution.

I think a ranger with pact magic style casting would be interesting.

The LL version has them being able to swap out a number of spells equal to their Wisdom modifier plus their Ranger level (rounded down) per long rest.
Yea, but I think we're aware the LL version of pretty much every class is better designed. :)

I would replace my PHB with a LL PHB, no question.
