The Lighting of the Death

Reveka gave a high snarling shout as the beasts appeared and lashed out. If she was wounded, it did not seem to phase her, and her greatsword lashed out, carving through the air where the creature had been...

OOC: Since she isn't using a shield with her greatsword, it looks like that 17 actually hits her, unless something else is at work here. She will swing with the greatsword, then take a swift action to switch her draconic aura to Toughness (DR 1/magic for self and all allies within 30 feet). Rolls: to hit 14, potential damage 11; rolled http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1546018/

Whoops!
Good catch by Reveka! who takes 8 points of damage.

And unfortunately, she just misses as the coordinated assault of the things keeps her from a good swing.

Zook pauses for a moment and does not cast his spell, but instead looks at the creatures and(assuming they are undead) uses his dark Knowledge on them.
Conentrating and pulling up all the information on tactics and zombie eh ca nrecall from his texts and spewing forth his results.

Round 3

The adventurers wait tensely for the howling creatures to return.

Emboldened by their success in hitting their prey and escaping, they reappear in their supporting pairs again, lashing out as before.
This time they discover their prey hits back.

Reveka bisects one of the howlers with her greatsword, spraying faintly luminescent blood everywhere.
Its companion, undeterred, bites at her furiously and hits:
Monster attacking reveka (1d20 4=20)
Monster damage (1d6 3=5)
(Reveka's Toughness aura reduces that damage to 4.)

Then Mathew brings his crossbow up and buries a bolt in it before it can fade away.
Mathew readied action (1d20-2=17, 1d8=6)

A second pair appear in front of Rethlin, working as a team to protect themselves from Veyk's riposte and bring the armored priest down.

Veyk's readied attack (1d20 4=13, 1d8 2=9)

Veyk's heavy blow misses, but Rethlin's thick armor protects him from the fangs of the monsters.
Combined monster attack on Rethlin (1d20 6=16, 1d6 3=7)

The last pair of monsters appear in front of Zook, eager to devour his flesh. Jack's counterattack is too weak to stop them.
Jack's AoO (1d20 4=5, 1d6 1=3)

Snarling, one of the howlers tears a chunk of flesh out of Zook's shoulder.
attacking Zook (1d20 6=25, 1d6 3=9)
(Zook takes 8 points of damage because of Reveka's toughness aura.)

As they finish their attacks, the five surviving monsters disappear in blue-purple flickers of light again.

Zook is up.

Rethlin will finish his spell on his initiative.

Veyk does his best to suppress his surging adrenaline and calmly prepares to strike again when the monsters inevitably return...

( Readying an action again on my turn. )

The howling fades into the distance in all directions.
Five seconds become ten, then thirty, with no further signs of attack.

"Cor!" Bill observes shakily.
"D'ya think they're gone?"

He looks down at the two faintly glowing halves of monster next to Reveka.
"So that's wot a ghost looks loike when it's dead again."
