Like I said, maybe I'm hoping for more from the show than I did in 1976. Also like I said, maybe that's just not going to happen.

Are you sure you are a fan? You didn't even get the original release year correct. It was 1977.

Indeed, but there are very few true failures. He doesn't get severely wounded, or messes up royally. I keep thinking back to Firefly, how Mal tries to get a smuggling job, and gets himself into a fight with a renowned swordsman who challenges him to a duel that he is sure to lose *. Nothing ever goes according to plan, and that keeps the audience second guessing how it all is going to play out. Firefly also takes every opportunity to explore its characters (and it had only half a season). I wish The Mandalorian did any of that.

Mandalorian is better than Firefly ever was. Firefly did not even try to pretend it was not really just a Western in space. I couldn't watch more than a couple of episodes before turning it off, and I am a huge sci-fi fan. It never surprised me that it got cancelled.

Maybe this show needs some redshirts.......but if the heroes are going to kill a couple dozen troopers w/o taking a scratch, what is the point of the troopers, story wise? Because there is no drama.....

I thought for sure the blue dude was a red shirt. Thought he was going to decide he had a bit of courage after all and would sacrifice himself to buy time so the others could escape.

Feh, him being there was fun. I liked the episode. I liked the action. I liked the idea of a place in the setting becoming more comfortable and prosperous due to the hero's actions.

Same, but I just wanted slightly more threatening bad guys. I literally never felt the protagonists were in any actual danger.

They are different shows, but they are both westerns. Firefly leans more into the western angle, while Mandalorian leans more into the pulp sci-fi angle. But Firefly has objectively better writing, as is evident from just about any clip of dialogue from any episode. It was but an example, however. There are plenty of scifi shows that have far better writing than Mandalorian (such as The Expanse for example). Which is what confounds me so much. A show with this budget and scope could be so much more with proper character development, set ups and pay offs. Is it a deliberate decision to make the writing so weak, or do they just have bad writers on this show?

Apart from one or two catch phrases, I can't think of any memorable dialog from 1 and a half seasons of this show.
