THE most important thing to remember about the playtest!

This is vital. So vital, in fact, that it warranted an entirely new thread just to point it out. It will also be using bold and italics as well as an enlarged font. Just warning you so that you can be prepared for the shock of it. Are you ready?

It's a playtest!

I think there's something in that for all of us, don't you?

I thought the most important thing about the playtest was to read it until you find so much as a comma that you disagree with, throw up your hands, scream to the heavens about how WotC/Hasbro is a league of jack-booted, puppy-kicking monsters out to ruin D&D forever so they can kill it, chop it up and sell it for parts.

Then you log onto ENWorld and start a brand new thread explaining, in great detail, why you will never, ever so much as look at a 5e product.

Isn't that how playtesting goes?

If it all goes well, one day we'll be able to look back and fondly reminisce about the positive changes we made to the game. Kinda like this.

"Remember the May playtest? Back then, there was a mechanic where if a wizard was knocked below half hit points, he lost a random spell. Turned out this wasn't too popular in play. But we didn't rant and shriek about how WotC were an evil cabal with a steady diet of live kitten sandwiches, and that this rule would make us forswear 5e forever. Instead, we posted sensible, detailed critiques in surveys and on the forums, explaining why we didn't like this rule, and how it detracted from the playing experience. WotC saw our feedback, listened, and modified the content in accordance with our wishes. So now, when the wizard's damaged to below half hit points, he loses two random spells!"

Exactly.

I play in the WoW beta and I see SOOOOO many people go "Bawwww, why is X broken!" Or "Bawww, why doesn't this dungeon work!?"

It's a BETA folks, heck this might even be Public alpha. Some things are bound to not work properly, so we should all try our hardest to give them feedback first and foremost on what WORKS and what DOESN'T, before we go into what we like or dislike.

Would it be out of line to link to your post every time someone does that over the coming months? :p

A. Did that 5 years ago. Replace the 5e with a 4e.
B. I don't (any longer) need no stinkin' playtest to make me do that :P
