The OKC Sorta-Annual Game Day II

Continued running a Necromancer Games playtest today and got a couple more interested responses for the Game Day next weekend.

Lisa and Kevin say they'll be there, and I gave them this website so they can sign up. Thanks to Kevin for loaning me the miniatures to use in our "White Countess" game.

Speaking of "In the Wake of the White Countess", I put the finishing touches on it last week while on vacation and e-mailed it to the infamous ASEO of the Paizo.com message boards fame (he that despises Wil Save) to reveiw it. He does playtesting for Wolfgang Baur and other stuff. He critiqued it, made suggestions, and said it was a worthy effort. I considered it high praise. I hope it's as fun for us next weekend to play it as it was writing it. Come ready for some old school Isle of Dread adventuring. Not since those many years ago when my characters first crossed the Great Wall following old Rory Barbarosa's map have I been this excited about heading into the thickets of the Isle. Of course, my sadistic older brother, who was DM, had a giant piranha bite off both hands of my favorite magic-user. But it was great fun nonetheless.

If you're interested in something of a sneak peak, check out the adventure "Torrents of Dread" in Dungeon magazine #114. It is something of a prequel to this adventure. I'm sure there are back issues available at Paizo.com if you're interested (no I don't get royalties, this is just a Public Service Announcement for those who might be interested ;) ).

Anyway, I hope to see everyone there on Saturday. A good time will be had by all if last year is any indication.

I live in Norman. I've got the gaming group who I might talk into going to this. But I've no intention of running myself.

What level PCs? Pregens, or what?

"White Countess" is for 8th-level PCs. I will have pregens prepared. If you'd like to bring your own characters just e-mail me a short rundown on their stats and equipment at gav3@prodigy.net. The main thing is for them to match the DMG standard for wealth so they will be representative of an average 8th-level character since this Game Day will also serve as a playtest before I send the adventure proposal to Dungeon. I will have miniatures for the pregen PCs, but if you want to use other characters you'll need to bring your own. Other than those limitations there's no reason you can't bring your own favorites.

The "White Countess" will be run twice, once in the morning and once in the evening. I'm not sure what the levels and requirements are for Eosin's "Ringmasters" or whatever game he decides to run, and if there's enough interest he might run a second morning game as well. I have heard he has some new material from Badaxe Games that he may be able to run. So come on down we'd love to have you. Send Eosin an e-mail to sign up. Don't worry if he doesn't respond right away. He'll get you on there.

PSSSt --- I am in the middle of four 12 hour night shifts but I should have everything squared away by Thursday evening.

Ringmasters is 3rd level. At this point I need to open up the morning slot and decide what I am going to run. It will also be lowish level.

Well, it is the day after, and I have to call the Game Day a success. We ran 4 games and other than an unfortunate TPK on the last room of one of them (some seriously unlucky save rolls) it was really fun over all. I got some great feedback on "In the Wake of the White Countess" and ideas that need to be changed (note to self: make last room easier), Eosin did a great job with his "Ringmasters" adventure from his The Last Dominion campaign hopefully soon be released by Pencil Pushers Publishers, and I got to run an amoral, compassionless drow elf (sorta' like a DM playing on the other side of the screen).

I'd like to especially thank everybody who was involved in the "White Countess" playtest: Brent, James, Sean, Kevin, Liz, Phil, Lisa, that guy whose name I didn't catch, and especially Joe for running a playtest of it as well.

Also thanks to Game HQ in Oklahoma City for graciously hosting us and to Randy aka Eosin for setting the whole thing up.

We'll have to do this again soon.
