The PC Becomes A Familliar

There is a spell out there somewhere I beleive, but can't remember ther exact name that allows Arcane Casters to summon their familliars.

Now imagine if a dragon casts that and it summons a PC to be the dragon's familliar.

How could this be handled though? What kind of benefits would the dragon get from having one of the PCs as its familliar? And what kind of benefits would the PC get in this situation?

in the 2e Draconomicon (and in the Wizard's Spell Compendium IIRC) there was a spell Summon Humanoid Familiar for dragons to use.

I would not grant any specific benefit to the dragon outside what a familiar normally grants. Plus the distance limits on the familiar effects could be rough.

In theory, while in contact w/ the dragon, the human would have the dragons saves (or its own if better). The human would also gain a potential intelligence boost (although I would probably overrule this) and half the dragon's hit point total.

Of course, since a dragon naturally casts spells as a sorcerer, this would be a waste of a spell slot. it would really only makes sense if the dragon took wizard levels.

Or, obviously, used a scroll....

The dragon would need to take sorcerer or wizard (or adept!) levels in order to get familiar benefits, even with a spell. Familiar benefits depend on the level.

There would be an Int boost only if the human familiar is dumber than what the dragon's level give. For a dragon with only one sorcerer level, that would only boost the Int of a human with an Int below 5... And if you're smarter than 15, only a dragon with epic levels in Sor could boost you.

While you would get nifties like Improved Evasion, the deal would not be totally nice for the human, though. Most notably, you would lose the capacity to progress in levels. No more XP for you! They would go to the dragon. Which, given his massive ECL, would not level often.

On the plus side, you'd share the dragon's lifespan. And if you are yourself an arcanist, your own familiar would, then, too.
