Pathfinder 2E The playtest is here!!

And one level 1 Spell per day. And one level 2 spell per day once you hit 6th level. And one level 3 spells per day once you hit 8th level. For one Feat. And you get the ability to take more Feats that give you multiple spells per day at appropriate levels. With the only prerequisite being one ability at a score you can easily achieve in up to 3 abilities at first level.

Did I misread the blog? I thought it took another feat to get the level 1-3 spells. I'm looking at it now and it looks like...

Wizard Dedication (INT 16 Req.) == 2 Cantrips per day
Basic Wizard Spellcasting == What you describe.

What don't I understand? What am I missing?

Various comments on the Paizo board talk about getting to where you can cast 8th level spells. I don't see how the Feats listed get you there. Maybe we just haven't been shown that detail?

Oh, you’re correct, I’m sorry. I misread. Still, two cantrips at full caster scaling and unlocking the ability to gain multiple leveled spells seems reasonable to me.

The blog itself talks about it as well.

(The Basic Wizard Spellcasting) feat pays dividends all the way up through 8th level, giving you more spells you can cast, and if you take it later on in your career, you get all of that spellcasting all at once. Better still, there are additional feats you can take to gain spells of up to 8th level!
They didn’t show the feat(s) that allow you to get up to 8th level spells, but based on the pattern evident in Basic Wizard Spellcasting, I would guess there is another feat that gives you a 4th level slot at 10th, a 5th level slot at 12th, and and a 6th level slot at 14th. And then probably one more that gives you 7th and 8th level slots at 16th and 18th.

Ah, no problem. We're all muddling through the crumbs. I forgot about the scaling, that could make it meaningful.

Unlocking future potential isn't really worth anything to me. The value of the Feat has to stand alone, otherwise you get silly Feat chains that folks will refer to as a "Feat Tax."

Half your level rounded up is full Cantrip progression. Cantrips scale to the level of the highest spell you can cast, and you gain new spell levels every other level (2nd level spells at 3rd level, 3rd level spells at 5th, 4th level spells at 7th, etc.) So not only does multiclassing not slow down your main class’s Cantrip progression, it gives you full-speed Cantrip progression for the added class.

I stand corrected. n_n

It is an understandable mistake. The phrasing “Even though you can cast spells, the spell level of your cantrips and arcane powers is half your level rounded up” makes it sound like a bad thing.

On the Paizo forums, I jokingly asked Mark Seifter why Paizo couldn’t have made a couple of the classes suck to make it easier for me, because I have no idea what to try first... :)

I’m glad Doomsday Dawn has the plot to make multiple characters, because I would have done it anyway. “GM, my Paladin has decided he can no longer adventure with these people, and heads out of town. An hour later, a Monk comes wandering into the tavern with a quest that coincidentally aligns with the party’s needs...”
