The Rules of Character Engagement

493. The Tavern and parts thereof simultaniously exists in numerous versions to suit everyone vast or limited imagination. An area of factual and spacial distortion, the features warp around the expectations of numerous players due to the fact that many do not/cannot ask for the antidotal information that may rectify this bizzare phenomenon. :P

There used to be an Almanac for Oerth... what remains of it is here. There is a menu for the tavern, which currently is not a source of every wine known to the multiverse. Also there are maps, the links to which can be found on this thread.

494. Whenever you make a goof and forget there's no longer rafters, the tavern is back on Greyhawk etc invariably someone who just got their first SN last week who PMs you telling you that you're wrong it was always like that.

495. Bargolem only chooses to go for his mysterious walkabouts on days when you're too dazzed to notice. (Ah the days when we used to say that Durst had sold him to the kenders...)

496 no matter how long you have been rping on site or been playing RPGs you will be called a newbie by the 13 year old kid that just got his very first handbook, doesn't even have a clue about what it says and makes up an SN to rp his D&D character

497 there are no grey areas.....don't try to play them because they are either good or evil no matter the situation

498 real world idealogies set to the side, devils and demons are evil, celestials are good, if they fall or rise they are no longer going to reside in their former plane of existance.....well okay everywhere other than the Wizards Community Chat that is

499 campaign settings should be picked apart and put back together again till they no longer resemble what they were intended to be

500 this is one that kills me, it is terrible to be an assassin but it is fine and dandy to be the one that pays the assassin, by doing so you have committed no evil acts what so ever it was a 'judgement' error and characters will readily fall for that excuse as well as their players

501 there is no such thing as good or evil, you can have a good character torturing someone for weeks even months on end and they are still paragons of all goodliness

502 there is an unwritten law stating that all tieflings and those with outsider blood shall have tails and horns, no other traits should be used what so ever that is just bad form

503 players seem to get amnesia that the most convenient times, like when their characters have been busted for doing something they shouldn't

504 pick a monster from the MM or MMII, change the alignment and you will have a super original character, umm nope that idea was done to death about five years ago or was it six?

505-A. Keeping one's distance is impossible.
You can never keep your distance from an opponent. Using one line of narration, many characters will move towards an opponent and make a big melee attack, always assuming the other player stays in one spot for this long enough to let the attack come within range.

505-B. Keeping one's distance is impossible.
And if you actually happen to keep your distance from an opponent for any length of time, the opponent is always able to teleport right behind you as their attack is being made, over and over again.

506. Summoned creatures.
Summoned creatures should be treated with caution when it comes to the policy of Freedom of Destiny. Otherwise, summoned creatures would be invulnerable, in much the same way that most of those who summon them are. This leads to problems when another character gets pressed and swamped by teeming masses of invulnerable summoned creatures who can never be harmed.

507. Turning and rebuking.
Creatures that are not a character or the familiar, mount or special companion of a character, should be treated with caution when it comes to the policy of Freedom of Destiny, just as summoned creatures. Also, expect spellcasters to rapidly flux back and forth on who actually has the upper hand in turning and rebuking creatures that are subject to such things, especially the mindless undead.

508 when playing a female character... no matter how scarred her description says she is, no matter how deformed her description says she is (yes Andion, there are a few ugly and scarred female characters )... Some male will come up and compare her beauty to the moon and stars, instantly fall in love and ask for her hand in marriage... and if she points out her scars and obvious lack of good looks to him he will invariably go to the old standby... "oh, but I can see your inner beauty shining through...blah blah..."

*rolls eyes and tries not to gag*

509 No Matter how much a female character tells a male character she DOES NOT like him, no matter how forcefully she supports that claim, and no matter how violently she refuses his advances.... she is obviously just being coy

Um, did I warrent that poke at me for something in particular Lorna?

Andion is really not that much of a playboy and doesn't spout off words of ultimate flattery to every female he talks to. Also, being fit and trim is different from being ripped and grotesque.

:( . o O ( maybe she enjoys confusing men )

510. All female characters not having an affair with another female is apparently a narrow minded fool who needs to broaden their horizons and consider new things.

511. Any female character having a love affair with another female apprently clearly despises all things male.

512. Any female character who rejects a suitor clearly only does it on the basis of such things as:
  • Racial hatred
  • Gender bias (see previous two posts)
  • Insanity
Options such as:
  • Not attracted to you.
  • Not interested right now.
  • Who are you? Have we met?
Will be taken as attempts of playing hard to get.

513. No matter how sweet, smart, and kind the character is if she has facial hair you must ignore her, roll your eyes, say "Oh gods" in a thought bubble, and pass her off as an ugly loon if a friend or companion is around when she talks to you.
Women with beards are to be avoided at all costs, people will start to think you judge your company by whats on the inside and not on appearence alone.

514. When a new character is made it is bad form to ever try to talk to anyone. No one wants to hang around the new guy/gal. So it is vital you sit for a week or two until someone notices you. Once that first "Well met" or "Greetings" is said you may speak freely to other characters. (Sort of like a twisted Simon says.)

515. A tip on those who choose to sit alone.
Not all of them are looking for company, and some don't care either way. Usually Andion sits appart so he doen't get ale spilled on his work when he is busy scribing spells, notes and accounts of events in an open book. There is nothing dark and mysterious about that... as a Northwesterner from Seattle Suburbia, I am accustomed to those who go to coffee shops to read books and do homework on their laptops.

516. A man who is not an overtly sexual ladyhunter is not homosexual.
For those who have assumed the opposite of what (I thought) Lorna did, Andion is not a homosexual. He is a heterosexual sun elven male, who once had an intimate, exclusive, heterosexual relationship lasting a little over a decade.
(not in ISRP, just in his character's history, which is also not part of his description )

sorry Andion... was not poking anything at you, had nothing to do with your character.... *hangs head in shame was not meaning to sound hateful*... was a reply to the post you made previously about all female characters being pretty and never keeping scars unless you were a dwarf... which is rather funny ... why do all the dwarves faces seem to be axe/sword magnets? maybe it is a racial thing?
