The sound of Deforestation?

First Post
In one of my classes I have to make a power point presentation on the rate of deforestation. The problem is that I need to put it to music. It can be no longer than 3 min.
I was thinking of either doing Africa by Toto or House of Stone and Light by Paige Martin but I'm not sure if those would be sad enough. If anyone can think of anything other than In the Arms of an Angel that would be fitting I would greatly appreciate it. It's due 5/8/08. Thanks in Advance.

For something a little more upbeat, but still appropriate, you might try Powerhouse or Dinner Music for a Pack of Hungry Cannibals, both by Raymond Scott.

Big Yellow Taxi...either the Joni Mitchell original, or the Counting Crows remake.

"They paved paradise, put up a parking lot."
"Took all the trees, put 'em in a tree museum/And charged the people a dollar and a half just to see 'em"

These are all great songs, but I was thinking of something a little more somber. With a "You see
all this beautiful stuff, well in forty years it will all be destroyed unless you do something" kinda feel. Maybe Enya?

When the Music's Over by the Doors is probably a good pick for what you are going for, both in tone and lyrically.

Although I think "Celebrate" from Kool & The Gang would be better. Forests and such might look beautiful in pictures, but if you actually had to live near one, you'd want it paved, too. It's very very icky. And unpleasant. Horrible animals and insects, diseases, smells.

Seriously. I live only 30 miles south of St. Louis, and I have to put up with ticks (several a day in peak season, it's a miracle I don't have Lyme disease), mosquitoes, coyotes, raccons, skunks, snakes. Not to mention dozens of deer, the stupidest animals ever to walk the Earth. Have you ever been trampled by one? It's not fun. I can't imagine how awful it must be for those people living in a jungle or rainforest.

Those of us in the US and Europe are lucky, our wilderness was largely tamed 100s of years ago, but people in lesser developed countries just have to put up with it. Sure, maybe they can move to urban areas, but the other parts of their countries are crowded as it is. But is it really fair to them to have to suffer, while we live in comfort?

I don't know how much of that post is sarcasm, but I certainly don't agree. Sure there are some nice aspects of urbanization, but as someone who grew up in a heavily forested area and now lives in a house in a densely built neighborhood on a tiny plot with one tree, I really miss the forests.
