The Stuff of Dreams (Orsal Judging)

What a lovely surprise!

"...She would be going by the name of Rilla or Brigit. She is a comely brunette woman..."
The man's brow furrowed as he pocketed the money, perhaps he was worried that he wouldn't earn his tip? "I don't recall a Rilla or a Brigit", he began with some hesitation. "I don't think I caught that one lady's first name, and she might meet the description", he stated as a flash of inspiration illuminated his mind. "Excuse me for a moment." He disappeared up the stairs, and returned a minute or so later, peering at Ryland as if verifying that the sorcerer hadn't grown an extra arm or two from the top of his head in the meantime. "Yes, you are a gnome, aren't you?", he questioned rhetorically. "Miss Brigit LeBot would like the pleasure of your company."

Enialis decided to keep an eye on things in the common room for the moment, so Ryland followed the man upstairs. The innkeeper knocked on one of the doors, and announced, "Miss LeBot, your visitor is here now." The door opened, and Ryland was greeted by Rilla - Brigit - whatever she went by at the moment.[/sblock]

Once outside Devlin makes his way quickly back to the office to have a word with his associates.
Sadly, after making his way all the way back to Archer's office, Devlin found the door at the top of the stairs locked. Nobody answered his knocks. Either Eppy had returned while he was tailing the elf, or else Ryland or Enialis most have had a key.[/sblock]

"Rilla, er ... Brigit. It's good to see you are well. I came here to check on you. Have you had any strange visitors snooping around?", the gnome says in a caring tone. [/sblock]

Come on up and see me sometime...

"No, thank goodness", ansered the pretty brunette. "Mr...Ryland, isn't it? Won't you please come in?" She beckoned the gnome to enter as she thanked the innkeeper for showing him to her room.

Once inside, Ryland found the room well appointed, nearly on par with the Tower. Brigit seemed ready to talk about something, a look of concern on her face. "Your...partner, Devlin, was here earlier today. Has he spoken to you?"[/sblock]

"We've spoken about a few things", Ryland began coyly. " We actually had a strange visitor at the office today. An elf. He had some interesting things to say about you, himself, Flodal. He seemed really interested in a golden ornament." He paused for a moment. "Interested enough to point a crossbow at us. It's time to tell us everything.", the gnome said with a serious look on his face.
OOC:Sense motive on reply
Die roll for Ryland
1d20+1-> [18,1] = (19)

sense motive check on 'Rilla'

Why, whatever do you mean?

Brigit's brow furrowed, her anxiety quite obvious. "I'm not sure I know exactly what you mean", she replied.

OoC: She's good. Veeeery good. But Ryland senses that she's concealing something.[/sblock]

[sblock=El Jefe[COLOR=DarkSlateBlue]]"Look, my employer died in your service. We want to protect you and find the killer, but we can't do that if you won't tell us who all the players are. What is this orb, or ornament? Do you have any idea who wants it, or what it can do? Are there any other "surprises" like Brimbor that you expect to pop up? What exactly is your relationship with Brimbor? You need to tell us so one of my other associates doesn't share Archer's fate."[/COLOR], the gnome asks, a penetrating gaze examining every nuance of her face for tells.

OOC: I'd like to sense motive again, but can't access IC before I run to work here. I'm +1 for the skill. Things are starting to heat up a little :p [/sblock]

Devlin looks around furtively, the produces his picks and sets about unlocking the door.

Brigit hung her head. "I haven't lived a good life", she confessed, "I've been bad, worse than you could know." She began to pace nervously. "You know something about Jobe Brimbor? We...we used to be partners, of a sort. How do you know about him?"

OoC: Brigit is very good. Ryland can just barely detect the way she's very subtly changed the subject of the conversation. For all he can tell, she may be truthful about what she's talking about.[/sblock]

Devlin was starting to get handy with a set of lock picks...maybe too handy. The latch clicked, and he was able to swing the door open. The office was dark and quiet...if anyone else was here, they were being quiet.[/sblock]
