Devlin continues to fend off his attackers with his rapier while retreating to the door.[/i]
Devlin stepped in front of the door, and Brimbor waited for an opening to attack again. Whether it was due to luck or skill Devlin did not know, but his blow would have surely connected had Devlin not been putting his all into defending himself. The sap smacked against the blade, and for a moment Devlin thought he would be rewarded with a chagrined elf holding a leather bag with lead beads pouring out through the hole Devlin's rapier had made. But the weapon must have contacted the flat of the blade, as Jobe jerked his hand back, afraid he'd left a finger or two behind.
Kamdar, ever wily, struck just when Devlin was most distracted by the elf. Had the two of them simply been fighting, the half-orc would have beaned the man good. Had Devlin simply been trying to fend him off, the result would have been the same as for Brimbor's attack. But Kamdar's clever timing was just enough to slip through Devlin's desperate defense. Ryland's partner realized too late that unlike Wilbur, Kamdar not only posessed some skill, but the knowledge of just how to sneak in a blow with devastating effect. Devlin saw stars as the sap contacted his head, then he was aware that he was falling to the floor, his rapier clattering on the surface beneath him. After that, things moved in slow motion...his vision faded in and out, he was aware of footsteps moving past him, and just before he lost consciousness completely, he was aware of the elf closing the door as he followed Kamdar out of the room.

Devlin was the first to return to his senses. His head ached, and he felt like he had a hangover, although he'd barely finished one drink. Some careful probing around the more tender parts of his skull revealed that although he'd have an impressive lump for a few days, nothing was broken. He slowly rolled to a sitting position. There was Ryland, still collapsed on the couch, breathing heavily. Aside from the gnome, Devlin seemed to be alone in the room. The silence was eerie...he could hear distant voices from the common room downstairs, but the Tower's construction was such that sound didn't carry well from room to room. He peered out the window. Judging from the angle of the sun, he'd been out for the better part of two hours, maybe more.[sblock=OoC: ]You almost made it. Brimbor's round 2 attack would have hit save for total defense. You moved next to the door, and would have been out of it next round. Kamdar would have ordinarily hit, and total defense would have intercepted the blow had you not been flanked. Kamdar obviously knows some of the tricks of a rogue...most of the damage was sneak attack damage, 13 points in total. Devlin is a little unsteady on his feet when he comes to (1 hp), but can function normally. Ryland is still out, but it's only a matter of another couple of hours before he's back up, too. It's now mid-afternoon...
Oh, and nothing's been taken, at least nothing obvious. Devlin's rapier is still on the floor where he fell.[/sblock]
