The Stuff of Dreams (Orsal Judging)

"One more question, when and why did you decide to involve Archer in all this?"
Brigit glanced at the floor, hanging her head in shame. "I was offered the sum of 500 pounds to steal the thing in Earling, and Brimbor and Thursby were in on it. However, Flodal and I learned that Jobe had planned to desert us. So, we double-crossed him before he could, and took off with it. But when it turned out that Flodal had no intention of keeping his promises to me, I needed some protection to deal with him. That's when I went to Archer." The girl sighed. "I didn't expect them both to end up dead, though!"

Devlin sighs. "Okay, let me see if I understand this whole situation. You, Flodal Thursby and Jobe Brimbor were hired to steal the orb in Earling. You and Flodal discovered that Jobe planned to double-cross you so you and Flodal ran away from Monemvassia, but not before you passed the orb on to your friend, Henri Jacobin. You and Flodal travelled from Monemvassia to Orussus overland while Jacobin brought the orb here on his ship. When you arrived in Orussus you learned that Flodal planned to doublecross you so you went to Furlong Archer for help. At some point, Jobe followed you to Orussus and along the way joined forces with Kamdar Fatwon. Flodal killed Furlong because you went to him for help, Jobe and Kamdar killed Flodal for doublecrossing them in Monemvassia."

Devlin sits down next to Brigit and shakes his head before continuing. "So if you didn't decide to involve Furlong until you got here and learned of Flodal's treachery, how did Jacobin know to bring the orb to Archer's office when he got to town?"

Brigit started pacing about Fatwon's room. "That's because I met Captain Jacobin at the docks yesterday. I was going to get the orb, like I said. But Kamdar and Jobe must have followed me or something...I don't know how, and surprised us on the ship. I gave Captain Jacobin directions to Archer's office in case he was able to get away with the orb...and that's exactly what happened. Oh, you do have it someplace safe, don't you? I'm so glad he was able to bring it to you."

"Brigit, you know we are trying to bring Archer's killer to justice. Any ideas on how we can prove Flodal killed him?", Ryland asks.

Brigit shrugged. "I wasn't there", she claimed with a wistful look.

"The orb is safe, Brigit, as safe as we can make it." Devlin hands Brigit a few coins. "I want you to go to the Coronet and get a room for yourself there. Ryland and I will deal with Jobe and Fatwon and it would be safer if you were elsewhere I think. Ryland, are you ready to go?"

ooc: Devlin will wait until Brigit leaves before leaving himself, and will wait until they are out of the room before talking to Ryland about their plan of action.

Once Brigit leaves Devlin motions for Ryland to follow him out of the room. "She sure knows how to tell a believable story, doesn't she? Too bad I think she's in on the whole thing, including Archer's murder. Let's go back to the office, there's a new thought I want to follow up on."

Ryland casts a spell and then proceeds to whisper to Devlin,"I want to bring in Vagan at the meet. Then I'll hypnotise Fatwon to see if I can get him to tell us who killed Archer. Vagan will have to somewhat nearby to hear the confession, any idea of how we're going to pull that off. What do you think about that?

OOC: I wasn't going to use hypnotism until we get close to the end, but now that we have the orb, I'm going to pull it out. Not sure if it will (or should) work. ;)

OOC2:Ryland casts Message
[sblock=Message]
Transmutation [Language-Dependent]
Level: Brd 0, Sor/Wiz 0
Components: V, S, F
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Targets: One creature/level
Duration: 10 min./level
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No
You can whisper messages and receive whispered replies with little chance of being overheard. You point your finger at each creature you want to receive the message. When you whisper, the whispered message is audible to all targeted creatures within range. Magical silence, 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal (or a thin sheet of lead), or 3 feet of wood or dirt blocks the spell. The message does not have to travel in a straight line. It can circumvent a barrier if there is an open path between you and the subject, and the path's entire length lies within the spell's range. The creatures that receive the message can whisper a reply that you hear. The spell transmits sound, not meaning. It doesn't transcend language barriers.
Note: To speak a message, you must mouth the words and whisper, possibly allowing observers the opportunity to read your lips.
Focus: A short piece of copper wire.[/sblock]
