The Stuff of Dreams (Orsal Judging)

Years later in 1255, a Rivenblight antique dealer found the orb in an "obscure shop" and recognized its real value. While researching the orb's history, the dealer enamled the orb over the lead with a coat of black paint. The dealer's establishment was burglarized and he was murdered - and the orb was stolen again, before Fatwon could acquire it. Fatwon had been searching for the orb for the last 17 years ("I'm not easily discouraged when I want something")
ooc: I think there's a typo in here. Either you meant in the year 1355 or that Fatwon's been after it for 117 years, since the current year is 1373.

OoC: Yeah, that was a typo...1255 is not "years after" 1272, but 1355 is. I edited my post to correct this.

Devlin listens to Kamdar's story with great interest. "That's all very fascinating Mr. Fatwon, but tell me. What does the orb do?"
It took a moment for Kamdar to shake off his fantasies of immense wealth from selling the orb, but his attention did snap back to the here and now. "Do?", he asked incredulously, "What does it do? He smiled and patted Devlin's knee again. "Ho-ho, the Knights of Fallon were no fools. They had a powerful wizard in their company, and he put many spells on it. It served them well in battle, and had they succeeded in delivering it to Asphetoon, it would have paid for the little barony that they desired." He paused to take another swig from his drink. "That orb is carved with griffons for a reason. It transforms into a griffon, but not just any griffon, oh no. It's a griffon that can travel to any plane of existance. And not just when you're riding it...if a group of individuals joins hands and touches the griffon, it can transport them all as well. The captain of the company was fond of using it to visit the ethereal during battle, riding behind enemy lines and spying on them, then emerging from the ether to strike a deadly blow with either his sword or the griffon's claws. A most formidible item, indeed." He chuckled. "Now you see why it seems to have the power to drive men crazy for it."

Devlin smiles at Fatwon, "So you would by this artifact from Ms. O'Shally in order to sell it to another who could make use of its abilities. For a substantial profit, I'm sure." Devlin stands and starts to pace.

"You're offering to buy the orb from Ms. O'Shally for twenty five thousand Crowns plus twenty five percent of the price you resell it for. How long do you think it will take you to resell the orb?"

Fatwon waved his hand dismissively and stood, drink in hand. "These things take a little time, but not much. When word is passed in the proper channels that the Orb of the Knights of Fallon can be had, I should expect buyers to appear from the six corners of the world. Let us say a week, no more than two, until the transaction is complete."

Devlin smiles at Jobe. "That's a fair site more than you were offering, huh?"

He reaches down and finally picks up his glass. Holding it up in salute to Kamdar, he continues, "Mr. Fatwon, I believe we have reached an accord. Of course we will have to confer with Ms. O'Shally, but I don't think she'll reject the offer."

Devlin takes a solid slug of his drink then puts the glass down. "Now that that piece of business is taken care of, I have one or two more questions. Why did you have Wilbur kill Flodal Thursby, and why would Thursby kill Furlong Archer?"

Brimbor seemed mildly offended by the remark, as if he was an elf of more means than Devlin gave him credit for. "Mr. Fatwon and I were able to pool our resources", he said by way of explanation. "Two heads are better than one, no?"

The big half-orc's belly shook as he chuckled. He gave Brimbor a strange look as he spoke: "Oh, I daresay she won't have much objection. No, no, not much at all." He chuckled again, giving Devlin a sense that he was holding something back, and that whatever it was, Miss Oshally wouldn't like it very much at all.

Fatwon frowned. There was an awkward pause, after which he faced Devlin. "Such matters would be, yes, injudicious to delve into at this time", he declared. His voice taking on a more cordial air, he continued: "It might be possible to discuss such things once, important business is concluded between gentlemen." The half-orc stood in his robe, regarding Devlin, his face as expressionless as the elegantly papered walls of the room.

Ryland's eyes narrow imperceptibly at the mention of the murders of Thursby and Archer. He stands and says, "I believe our business is concluded here. We will send word here when we are ready to exchange the ornament for our client's share."

OOC: I'm back. Nice job while I was away Dungannon

As Ryland stood, he quickly became aware that all wasn't right with the world. He glanced over at Devlin, who began having the same problem. The room lurched, and the floor and ceiling seemed to want to trade places.

OoC #1: I'll need Fortitude saves from each of you.

OoC #2: Welcome back, Salix! Just in time for the real fun to begin!
