Devlin nods at Brigit's answer. "Good, good. I want you to stay indoors until we come and get you tomorrow. By then this whole affair will be over and everyone should be satisfied."

Devlin then heads off back to their room at the Tower Inn, beckoning Ryland to accompany him. On the way back, he again addresses the issue of Officer Vagan.

"So, have come to any conclusions as to how we're to involve Vagan in our little soire tomorrow evening?"

 

[Salix]

Devlin then heads off back to their room at the Tower Inn, beckoning Ryland to accompany him. On the way back, he again addresses the issue of Officer Vagan.

"I'm not sure. If we bring him in we might lose the orb, but if we don't bring him in we won't have a witness to the murder confession", Ryland says, then pauses and sighs heavily. "I guess our real duty here is bringing Archer's killer to justice so we'll have to concentrate on that. Maybe we can bring Vagan in with an anonymous tip, and have him raid the meeting? any ideas yourself?"
OOC: I'm back. Hope everyone had a great holiday season.

Devlin ponders for a moment. "We could alert Vagan to a possible break in the case and then send a messenger to him with the details of where to find the culprits after we've incapacitated them. That way he never need know about the orb or the money."

"So.. tip him to the meeting for half an hour after we get there?", Ryland responds.

OOC: Dnon-do you have anything else planned before the meeting?

ooc: nope, the only thing we need to do before the meeting is pick up the poison from Bellam.

ooc: I hope you guys haven't been waiting for me. I thought we were waiting for El Jefe to move us along to the meeting with Bellam?

The rest of the day passed uneventfully, and perhaps remarkably, so did the night. Both Devlin and Ryland noticed that the tromp of footsteps in the hallway outside their room made them unusually jumpy -- where otherwise, they would have simply dismissed the presence of others as other guests of the Tower merely coming and going, each set of passing footsteps brought concern that they might belong to Kamdar, Jobe, Vagan, or any combination of the three.

Both heroes passed the night in a fitful sleep, perhaps anxious to resolve the whole affair the next day. They took breakfast in the common room, noting that neither Kamdar nor his elf graced them with his presence. The pair mutually decided to while away the morning in their room, which soon grew boring.

Come afternoon, they made their way to St. Arnolds. Aside from dodging the Watch, it seemed a safer place to wait for Bellam. Just as the first few early-leavers and roustabouts from the docks were trickling in, Devlin spied the figure of Bellam. He glanced at their table, "his" table, but seemed to pay them no heed. Had he seen them? Was he ignoring them? After chatting with the bartender, he made his way to "his" table, and joined them there.

"I hear you have something for me", was the only introduction he made. "Payment of a debt, or some such. If your coin is good, then there might be a gentleman across the way", he motioned with his head, "who might have something for you."

Ryland looked in the direction the seedy man had indicated. A large, ugly man who had previously appeared to be just another dockworker or sailor was doing his best to keep a close watch on the pair without being too obvious about it. He was better at it than a typical drunk, but not too good by Devlin's standards.
