The Treasure of the Tierra Padre... [Knight Otu Judging]

Round 13

Oirhandir's arrow flies true, piercing through the wyrmling's belly, and it shrieks hideously with the pain of the dire wound. Almayce kicks Rogier awake with one foot, while he frantically reloads the crossbow. Rogier, bleary eyed, stumbles to his feet, and again prepares his axe for the inevitable attack on the helpless Ignatious.

The dragon, however, mortally wounded by Oirhandir's archery, dives for the safety of the water. The momentum of his escape brings him just within reach of Rogier's battle axe. The paladin swing with all his might, and the edge of the blade razors through the armored scales of the dragon's sinuous neck. Black blood fountains from the gash in a thick jet, and the beast's graceful dive suddenly turns into an ungainly tumble. It hit the water sideways, with wings all akimbo, and slowly begins to sink into the pool, spreading black clouds of blood into the water.

Somehow Oirhandir just knew that he couldn't miss. It was as if some unearthly power was guiding his arrow, not he. It didn't seem real, like he was imagining a well-spun tale in his mind's eye, as he watched the foul creature fall from the top of the cavern only to find it's end on Rogier's blade. So this was death. Somehow, it felt different that it did when a rabbit or fish gave him meat or fur, even different from when Rogier and Gath slew the crocodile...was that just yesterday?

Oirhandir bounded across the little cave at a trot, relieved to find his companions well if a little worse for wear. It seemed a shame to wake little Ignatious just yet, for his wounds would surely be painful when he woke. Oirhandir realized that he hadn't said a word since loosing his arrow, as the silence was punctuated only by the sound of his own breath, that and the heavy breathing of his companions.

"And dark are the waters of your demise"
, he said, once again addressing his foe in its native tongue.

He reached for the carcass as it slowly settled in the pool. No sense letting that...thing foul these waters any more than it already had.

All:
[sblock]Oirhandir will try to retrieve the carcass, if he can still reach it. After that, the agenda would be...group hug, congratulations to Rogier and Almayce (and Iggy when he comes to), and retrieving his chimes from the mouth of the cave. Well done, one and all![/sblock]

Almayce watches as the dragon hits the water. He has a slight feeling of accomplisment, but still mumbles "Damn..." under his breath while turning to check on Iggy. He casts a spell of healing at Iggy while following Oirhandir's fishing operation. He'll also wake up Iggy after healing him. Should Oirhandir manage to drag the corpse out of the water, Almayce will check if the dragon is truly and completely dead, even though he thinks it's probably too late.

"I would like to notify that I have now practically used all my healing spells.", he announces to others.

OOC: Converting Bless to Cure Light Wounds and casting it at Iggy.

Iggy

Iggy wakes up confused. "Oh. Where am...hey, everyone's OK! Did it escape? What was that thing? Whoa. Ouch. I'm hurt pretty bad. We need to talk. Rogier, what happened to you down there?

Almayce tends to Iggy's wounds, and within moments the deep gashes on his arms show nothing but the thin white tracings of battle scars.

The dragon's body settles on the bottom of the pool with its wings askew at unnatural angles. Black blood continues to seep from its fatal wounds, clouding the water like ink from a frightened squid.

"Gosh. Thank you, Almayce. That healing is amazing. So important. Vital...Perhaps I should have followed the path of a priest instead of a wizard. Hmmm. Anyway. Nice work there, gang"

Oirhandir stooped to reach into the pool, but realized that dragon's body had already sunk beyond his reach. As he slumped in frustration, he became aware again of his pain from where the dragon's acid had burned him. A few friendly nods and gestures reassured him that his companions were fine, especially with Almayce using some of the last of his magic to heal Iggy.

The bard glanced again at the spreading cloud of ichor in the water. "That's pollution atop of corruption", he thought to himself. Nodding toward the pool, he asked, "Rogier? Iggy? From what you know, is there any reason to believe that someone diving in there to pull that out would be in any unusual danger? I mean, you didn't see that thing's twin in there, did you?"

"It is over, luckily. This cave has been cleansed of the corruption. May the black blood be the last of this creature's foulness."
Rogier sheaths his weapon, and checks if everyone is okay. Upon seeing the wounds that Oirhandir has, he closes his eyes and channels the healing power invested in him by his deity. After fully restoring Oirhandir to his full power, he channels the last bit of his gift to cure some of the acid burns on his own head.
"Let us get out of this cave. With the evil here removed, I think we will have no trouble getting a good shuteye."
Rogier picks up his remaining stuff, and prepares to get back to the horses.

[OoC: Lay on Hands for 3hp on Oirhandir, 1hp on Rogier]

Iggy

"Wait, Rogier. How do you know its over? What did you see down there? Did you get out of the water? How was your rope cut? It's still morning. If that monster's dead, maybe we can continue."

"The only thing I saw was the darkness, but I felt the evil radiated by this creature. And it was the only thing I sensed when I was at the other side of the tunnel. "
Rogier halts his action, and turns around to his friends.
"How my rope got cut is still a riddle to me, I did not notice anything taking any such action. Perhaps it was the same dragon, perhaps it was a sharp stone in the way, I would not be able to tell you. And to continue with our resources for the day nearly wasted seems suicidal to me. Besides, we have a treasure to find."
