Yeah the titles are working but what’s in them is probably settled. Curious what new type of spell means
That is an intriguing question, not sure if that ia fully new or some sort of FR lore deep dive.Yeah the titles are working but what’s in them is probably settled. Curious what new type of spell means
My guess would be some sort of Red Wizard of Thay deal. But there are other possibilities.Yeah the titles are working but what’s in them is probably settled. Curious what new type of spell means

Updated runic magic? That would be a fairly reasonable possibility.
Psionics? That would definitely be a different type of spell, but it would be odd to introduce here (instead of in, say, a Dark Sun setting), since psionics has historically existed in the setting, but only in a minor way. And calling psionics "spells" would definitely be a trigger for some.
Epic Level spells? While also part of the setting, they haven't existed for some centuries, as they were forbidden by Mystra herself after the whole Netheril debacle. Also, it would be hard to see how they would fit in, given 5e's hard level 20 limit and nerf on higher-level spell slots. But their remnants from Netheril and elven high magic (mythals) still linger, so maybe that?
Oh, Spellfire is also a good possibility! Completely forgot it when writing my previous post. But balancing it has always been pretty hard, so they have their work cut out for them if they go down that path.I reckon the new type of spell is either gonna be a new way of doing spellfire or it will be Nether Scroll epic-level stuff.
Unless you do what Pathfinder did by making Psionics into just another kind of magic, one with Thought and Emotion spell components. PF1- Psychic Magic, PF2- Occult Magic. And calling psionics "spells" would definitely be a trigger for some.
