The Wheel of time has ended...

One of the most memorable scenes/lines in ANY book I have ever read is in the Wheel of Time series.
"Kneel, or you will be knelt!"
That whole battle was the highlight of the series.
Regardless of what people's opinions of his works are, he will be missed.

Blastin, I agree. The whole end of that book, Lord of Chaos, I believe, had me pumping my first at the air and shouting in triumph. The arrival of the Ash'a'man (spelling?) and the carnage they dealt was just awesome!

There is a similar thread in the Media portion of the site.

I will however post this again...

HOW DARE HE!!!!

For any interested parties I am formulating a bus trip to his grave site.

I already posted a response to this unfunny statement in the thread you refer to. Is it supposed to be funny?

dood, you totally killed my high.

"Robert Jordan has passed away, as a result of amyloidosis with cardiomyopathy."

This is the saddest news I've received though ENWorld. My condolences to his family, friends and fans (of which I will always be).

I just heard about this in the latest Something Positive installment, and though I can't say I'm surprised, I am rather saddened. Yes, the series took on a distinctly different flavor after the Fourth book, from edge-of-your-seat "What crazy awesome events will we be seeing next?!" to "Wow...stop stalling for time." But I still ate it up and repeatedly bought the next book as soon as I could.

I want to know what happens next! How does the Tar Valon situation turn out? How does Mat adjust to his new station in life? What about Moiraine and Morgase, Perrin, Egwene, Sevanna, Min, Rand, Aviendha and all the other countless characters we've come to know so well?

I'm glad to hear that his wife will possibly be continuing his works, but I find myself wondering when?

A sad, sad day. No one deserves to waste away like that, least of all a man with such an artistry of the imagination and the language.

The last embrace of the mother welcome you home, Robert.

I got the news in a txt msg from my wife.

RJ - was a good author, orginal (after the first book) and epic in scope.
I just read the better half of the series again this year, ending in book six - with the memory of why I had quit collecting it (although I have read them all)

I remember a feverish quest to catalog all the mentions of the game Snakes and Foxesand its basis in actually dealing with the animal-headed, extra-planer humanoids, seen only on the far side of gates.

I have long maintained that If he had been willing/able to finish the series in 8 books (to match the eight ages of time) he would have been one of my all time favorite authors.

So even though I look forward to a posthumous conclusion to the series, Once Again I worry about its pacing. A one book finish seems to fast, but to squeeze two books from unfinished notes and skeletons of ideas ..... My fav posthumos book was Prelude to Foundation - while its sequal the disjointed Forward the Foundation finished the tale but in a disjointed, unsatisfactory way

The player of the Heron-marked (facial tatto) Blademaster in my game will be told of the shudder in the fabric of the void, next time he goes into his combat trance.

Is a sad thing to know.

He was a good author, as his books. I enjoyed reading 7 of his books the best of his series as everybody seems to agree.

My condolences to wife and family, his works helped to make this world be less gray

When I heard this on Monday morning, I was absolutely stunned for about 10 minutes... I just kept re-reading the note in his blog over and over, unwilling to believe that someone who just weeks before had written such an optimistic entry could be gone.

I know people who don't like Wheel of Time - and I know people who absolutely love it. Two of the guys I game with have read the series about 3-4 times each. I've read the entire series at least twice through... and while it may not be the best piece of literature ever produced, it's still a great story written by a man who obviously enjoyed the genre.

His posts in his blog, to me, show just how nice a guy he really was and I regret never getting to meet him.

He will be truly missed.

This would have been the last book. I attended a signing of his 11th book and in the preamble of the event he went through a few things. Of how many books are left in the series he said "Even if you have to roll the thing out of the store on a dolly this will be the last book"

Apparently according to his brother posting on the Robert Jordan blog on Dragonmount he had sat him and (James') wife down and gave the whole thing to them, so the ending of the story is known and will be put to words. In his final days he was putting as much to text and audio as he had energy for.

The book will be finished by my gambling estimation. It may just take a bit more time as they work to find the tone and feeling of RJ.

James Oliver Rigney Jr. may the last embrace of the Mother welcome you home.
