What *I* really want to know is: are there any good 2nd hand RPG vendors at Gencon? Somewhere that I can get all these awful, awful games at discount prices? If not Gencon, where else? I'll be passing through NY, Baltimore, Birmingham, New Orleans & Chicago on my way to the con, so any of these venues will work just fine for Bad RPG Shopping ....

I know there are at least two 2nd hand dealers at GenCon. IIRC one is Wizard's Attic or something like that. Can't even remember the other one.

Of course, most cons have an auction. You might have some luck with that.

Driving?!? Those are SO not in a straight line. If you're going to be in New Orleans in July, god help you. :D

I searched for Spawn for six years before finally tracking it down. Other games may be easier to find.

Of games I have actually played, the one I hated most was In Nomine. But then I dislike games that encourage players to mess with each other. Maybe it was the DM. It was at a Con.

I remember the Dragon Review of Spawn of Fashawn. The reviewer thought it was a parody. How very Charlie Brown.

I've played Vampire as well, and ... um ... you can't dodge.

Sure you could - roll Dex + Dodge, difficulty 6. Number of successes are subtracted from attacker's successes they got on the attack roll.

I live in Brisbane, so hot and sticky is something I've learned to endure (though not enjoy).

Really, apart from Chicago, my planned route is not that erratic :) and I'll fly from New Orleans up to Chicago.

Auctions rock. I bought Everway for $1. And Theatrix for $3. One day I really ought to write that "Biggles and the Great Zeppelin Menace" Theatrix Game ...

Well, thankfully I haven't played very many bad game systems. The worst that I played was Marvel Superheroes. Fun game, overall, but very annoying that not all heroes are created equal. Hmm, bad guy has Incredible rank body armor. Hmm, my character sheet has nothing over Remarkable...nope, can't hurt him a bit. Add to that the fact that your characer would never, ever get any better. Maybe it was our own fault for trying to run actual campaigns of this game. But, overall, if that was the worst game I've ever played, I'm not doing too bad.

For games I haven't played, any game that you can get killed before you start play is already in the top rank of worst games. Except for Paranoia, of course. If you die in character creation in Paranoia, it's just good clean fun!

Now card games...boy, let me tell you about card games. The absolute biggest stinker had to be SimCity the card game. To play, you had to have a mayor and some kind of power plant. These weren't necessarily in the deck you bought, however. Not to worry! There are cheap paper copies in the rulebook! So you start laying out a bunch of cards to build a city, but what they do, how they interact, what makes for good placement...these are all things missing. In the end, me and my buddy, after an hour of placing these cards down, just gave up and rolled dice to see who won. Then there's Illuminati: New World Order. Great idea. Really cool cards. Unfortunately, about all you can do is look at them. In a three-player game, the fact that you have to add up how each and every card interacts with each and every card every time anybody tries to do anything...well, it becomes an accounting nightmare very quickly. I hear they fixed Rage. They would have had to. When me and my buddy got ourselves some cards and built some decks, it quickly became obvious that we could simply compare who had the biggest werewolf. That deck would be the winner 99% of the time if we even bothered to play.

Oh, I definitely vote for RIFTS. I made up a lay-line *blah*, and within 30 minutes of gaming, my character took out his gun and blew his head off. I couldn't wait to get into my car and drive home. In fact, I know my LGS will buy back D&D, but they won't buy back RIFTS ...

Oh my God, what did I almost just see...?

Think of it like someone telling you not to go looking around for goatse or tubgirl. If you know what's good for your sanity and stomach don't be looking at them. (and don't go looking for these things either if you don't know what they are.)

I didn't know what they were, so naturally, I didn't listen and went looking for them on Google.

Anyone reading this, heed maddman75's advice: do not look for them. Thankfully, my visual focus was elsewhere on my screen when "tubgirl" came up, so I'm not entirely certain what I almost saw, but I know I never want to go back there again.

I don't even want to contemplate what "goatse" might be like...
