They made it! They really made it!

I think Diaglo really wants a "1e Gaming for Dummies" than the one that's gonna be most likely abt how to play 3.5.... :P

Yeah, but how is he going to feel when he find out that "D&D for Dummies" is really 4th Edition disguised as a mainstream book in order to leverage new markets. ;)

Dear ENWorld,

I never thought it would happen to me . . .

...the DM was a beautiful raven-haired woman with a cruel gleam in her eye and a tight black fitting outfit...

...and then she said that she "felt it was time I learned real magic..."

The sad thing is that I've known this was coming for months now, but am still surprised to see it listed...

The Auld Grump, now if the can only do an 'Iron Kingdoms Mekanical Item Creation Guide for Dummies'...

Ya' know, it had to come sometime...

But on the *for Dummies front, I've bought the cooking, chess, and pool books, and found them all to be very useful for making sure I understood the basics. They're written in a way that makes it clear that the writers not only enjoy each subject for it's subtle points, but also just for the joy of cooking (or playing pool, or chess). As such, I can't think its anything but good that we have such a book coming out for D&D.

I just told one of my non-RPGing friends... and his response was "It must be mine!" ;)

(His young daughter occasionally plays D&D with me...)

Cheers!

Cool!

Sure, most folks who buy it will be gamers, or gamers will buy it for their non-gamer friends, but if it makes its way into the hands of some non-gamers or anti-gamers it'll have done its job (hopefully). To expose potential new players to the game in a nonthreatening way, and to provide a 'neutral' source for those that have negative perceptions of gaming so that they can (if they want to) get all of the facts without actively supporting the hobby.

As far as the line of books goes... I built four hardened servers at work today that will sell for around $75k a piece (just establishing my credentials); and I have both 'PCs for dummies' and 'Unix for Dummies' on my bookshelf. They aren't daily references for me, but their useful enough to keep around.

Look at what's happened to me
I can't believe it myself
Suddenly I'm on top of the world
Shoulda been somebody else
CHORUS:
Believe it or not I'm walking on air
I never thought I could feel so free
Flying away on a wing and a prayer
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me
Just like the light of a new day
It hit me from out of the blue
Breaking me out of the spell I was in
Making all of my wishes come true
CHORUS
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me

There's a helpful thread on this stickied at the IK forums.

EDIT: And that's "mechanikal."
