They're making a movie of.. Dan Simmons' Hyperion?

To me it is a bad omen when they are going to take to books with 400 + pages and make it into one movie. Usually movies like this feel either rushed or missing to many important plot elements.

Wow... that could be something. That is quite a world he created there. Those stories are intense and not for the faint of heart. I could see fans of Lost being into that movie big time.

Is there anyone else who envisions Eberron, especially Xen'drik, looking / feeling a lot like Hyperion? Kind of gritty and post-apocalyptic, with big vistas and pulp action.

The Hyperion Cantos is one of my favorite series of all time. I'm not totally against a film version, but I would much rather see it as a miniseries. The books are far too dense (without filler) that I can't see how a two hour movie could do them justice.

I have always envisioned Hyperion as a futuristic Canterbury Tales, as each pilgrim tells his incredible tale that brought him/her to the shrine. It would excel as a miniseries where each tale is an episode. No way can this be done right in 2 hours for one book. To try to do two books is insane.

If done right this would have me very exicited. As it looks now, I dont have much hope.

It's like Canterbury Tales crossed with Memento. It's a very literary device the author uses and I think it would be hard to translate into a film without some heavy plot alterations.

Yeah... hm.

I think Hyperion itself would be tremendously difficult to adapt to film, but combining Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion into one movie? Can't really see it, at least not without sacrificing a tremendous amount of the themes and allegories of the novels.
