Think you have what it takes to be a powergamer? Take this test.

Build a 20th lvl character with any items you want (no artifacts and only one wish). Under core rules and see if he can kill a tarrasque by himself.

I must complain, this is wayyyy too simple, be the criteria, kill 2 or so solars without timestop by yourself and then thats a true powergamer!

Or maybe make it, make a 12th level char to kill the tarrasque

I failed, no powergaming here, we faught the terrasque in our highest level game and couldn't kill the thing, we got mega-lucky and drove it insane and gated it to limbo. I don't really count that game though, i'm not sure the dm properly handled the spell restance and other powers. BTW, all four characters were around 20th level and we almost all died.

Well, if you limit it to 32-point buy and the suggested 760,000gp worth of items that the DMG suggests, it becomes slightly reasonable. But not hard.

Brunhilda
Female Elf 19th level rogue/1st level sorcerer

Str 12 . Dex 24 . Con 6 . Int 13 . Wis 10 . Cha 12 After stat increases, before magic items.

HP 32

Feats: Point-blank shot, Weapon Focus (composite longbow), dodge, mobility, shot on the run, rapid shot, alertness.

Abilities: Sneak attack +10d6, can cast true strike and something else.

Items:

Ring of Improved Invisibility (or a lot of potions or a lot of scrolls)

Cloak of Flying, or the equivalent.

+5 Magical-beast Bane Icy-burst Mighty Composite Longbow (total enchantment +9)

Quiver of Ehlonna filled with 60 +5 shocking-burst flaming-burst arrows (total enchantment +9)

Girdle of Strength +6

Gloves of Dexterity +6

Ranged Attack Bonus: +32

You'll be invisible, and gain a +4 bonus to hit, so you'll always hit with your first shot, dealing 1d8+10d6 (sneak) +2d6 (bane) +7 (enchantment) + 1 (point blank shot) +4 (strength) +1d6 +1d6 +1d6 (frost, flaming, icy). That's 1d8+15d6+8, averaging 66 damage per hit. After regeneration, that's still 26 points of damage per round, so you'll eventually whittle it down to death. Since you're flying above its head, and invisible, you'll never be hit. You win.

With spell resistance do you need to check to see if you beat it when you are using flaming burst weapons etc....

I think that if the weapons produce spell effects on contact that maybe they would. Never thought about it until this thread.

Tsk tsk.

You seem like a typical powergamer.... You don't think the rules should apply to you:) (They do often seem to have some funny interpretations of them)

A) Sneak attack only works when the opponent is flatfooted. Invisibility only forces the opponent to blindfight (No big deal for a tarrasque)... You will need to sneak upon it. What is a tarrasques listing check by the way?:)... Never mind. It will probably smell you.

B) Now I haven't read the rules for the tarrasque lately but I'm pretty sure it has some kind of elemental immunities or resistances.

C) Is it intelligent enough to throw things at you?

D) Isn't there something about a 5% chance (A roll of 1) to miss?

E)... There are probably more but I don't have the books in front of me.... Do you have a wish or something similar ready to kill it?

Added: Oh... I see some of the other posts already mentioned some of the points... Oh well. No harm done :)

It's really pretty simple. Any 10th level Arcane Archer who can fly and has a +5 bow should be able to do >50 points of damage per round, easy. Just make sure he has a Ring of 3 wishes to finish the job.

Do I win? ;)

Nope. Anytime the opponent loses his dex bonus, and being invisible qualifies (PH table 8-8)

Fire yes, the others, no.

C) Is it intelligent enough to throw things at you?

INT 3. Probably not, plus you are invisible.

D) Isn't there something about a 5% chance (A roll of 1) to miss?

This is true.

I think he could get around this without much trouble, ring or scroll with use magic device come to mind.
